Ace of Aces Film - 1933

edit

During a parade scene at about the seven-minute mark, soldiers marching off to fight in WWI are compared to lemmings marching (swimming) off to sea in pursuit of a goal that doesn’t exist.

So, it appears the myth was generally understood in 1933. 2600:1702:7A0:8230:F5A7:82E4:9438:F84D (talk) 02:16, 21 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Lemmings as pets

edit

I have been increasingly running across web pages on the subject of keeping lemmings as pets. It might be worthwhile to have a small section on that topic, although it's hard to find sources that the community would consider reliable. Authoritative sources might be:

§ In popular culture and media: Kindly remove "A cognate term is sheeple." That's not what cognate means. 2A02:560:4DFA:C000:302C:7F98:8281:A98A (talk) 09:49, 14 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Partly done: Rephrased to remove the false "cognate" term. EducatedRedneck (talk) 11:45, 14 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Lemmings Video Game

edit

Pop culture section should totally include the 1991 addictive video game Lemmings, where users had to work out how to get as man lemmings as possible to safety, harnessing or countering their programmed drive to keep walking thoughtlessly, regardless of hazards or obstacles.  Preceding unsigned comment added by 5.203.188.214 (talk) 18:43, 6 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Not done We'd need a reliable, independent source that not just confirms the existence of the video game, but discusses the Lemming's cultural impact via that video game, per MOS:POPCULT. EducatedRedneck (talk) 00:55, 7 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

The mass suicide section

edit

The way the section of this article regarding the "mass suicide" misconception is very confusingly written. It's randomly interspersed with seemingly irrelevant sentences about the fluctuation of lemming populations and the size of migratory herds, and seems to strongly imply that they do unintentionally fall off cliffs regularly, but does not clarify that one way or another. I feel like it needs to be edited for clarity, but I don't know enough about lemmings to do it myself. AndracaTheDuckKing (talk) 02:55, 25 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
