Synonyms

I'm not quite sure about the synonyms for this plant. World Flora Online lists two synonyms, Plants of the World Online lists none as far as I can see, and other sources list several. @Balsam Cottonwood:, if any infraspecific taxa (subspecies or varieties) are recognized, POWO will have most synonyms (heterotypic ones) shown on separate pages for the infraspecies. POWO has 15 synonyms across the 3 varieties they recognize. WFO also groups synonyms by infraspecies, but they are shown on the same page as the species, you just have to scroll down a bit further. WFO has 15 synonyms across the 3 varieties.

The synonyms that WFO lists directly under the species are both errors. Lathyrus venosus subsp. venosus should presumably be a synonym of Lathyrus venosus var. venosus.

Lathyrus oreophyllus is a misspelling of Lathyrus oreophilus (which is a synonym of Lathyrus venosus var. intonsus).

Wikispecies doesn't recognize any varieties, the varieties themselves are also treated as synonyms. Plantdrew (talk) 00:14, 20 May 2025 (UTC)

@Balsam Cottonwood:, removing them would be the easiest thing to do. If synonyms are given, I think the synonyms of the varieties should be included, but that is kind of a pain to set up (there isn't really any agreed standard way to format lists of synonyms of subdivisions). Citing the synonyms to POWO would take three citations. Citing syonyms to WFO would take one citation, but if WFO is used I think the ones I called out as errors should be included (per WP:NOTTRUTH).
