Vernacular (box)

edit

The statement under Vernacular in the box, that Hiri Motu is spoken in the New Guinea Highlands is utterly false. It never penetrated to the highlands; it was based on the Motu language of the Motu peoples in the Port Moresby area, and adopted by the Australian colonial regime, and used throught the Australian territory of Papua - the mostly lowlands in the south of the country. It was only ever common on the southern coast and hinterland. Ptilinopus (talk) 11:55, 8 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
