the controversies
editIt seems that the most controversial thing about Marsden was that she was gay, in a time where it was a crime to be so. Her impropriety of funds does not seem adequately proven and what is documented here are just allegations. Ms. Marsden's biggest mistake appears to be telling the "good Reverend" that she was a lesbian, according to this article. This individual and others used this to ruin the reputation of someone who they seemed to have simply not liked. Considering that being homosexual is no longer quite as controversial, someone should rewrite the section on the "controversies". It sounds like she did a lot of good work in Russia and this should be emphasized.

- Was it a crime? needs a ref for that. You mention that they were just allegations .... that is actually the word used (as well as rumours). Her good work is also mentioned. You are allowed to edit the article .... Victuallers (talk) 17:14, 13 May 2026 (UTC)
