JJM Shaw was my grandfather. I have read your account of his life and achievements with interest. I am sure my mum and uncles would have been interested to see his life and work was still recognised and regarded. I am curious as to why you say he and my granny had 8 children. In all the conversations we ever had, with any of the family, no-one ever talked of children dying or there being miscarriages, and that is something I am sure they would have mentioned, as it was talked about with regard to, for example, losses in my dad's family. As far as I know, they only had four children: my mum and three uncles (one of whom still is alive and very elderly - I am going to see him later this year and will tell him about your page).
I am one of 6 children. Rather shockingly, the Balfour family tree only shows the three biological children my parents had, and it omits the three children they adopted, myself included. I know the Balfours must be aware of this, as Jeremy was at school with my younger brother and, indeed, came to my house to play when he was a primary school boy.
