Removed parts
editThat says HIII I have just removed the following explanation, not belonging on a disambiguation page (see also MoS:DP)
- A job sequence involves
- Setup time, including the infrastructure and materials
- Value added, including service delivery
- Take-down time, including disposition and disposal
- Additional costs for a job include the Non-recurring engineering (NRE)
That info might be at Job sequence, but I don't see a reason to have it here. Kusma (討論) 02:59, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
jobs
editJobs redirects here, since it's the most obvious, but this is probably not a perfect redirect. Suggestions? --Christopherlin 07:23, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
proposed job (role) entry
editIn trying to update an article about a type of job, I am really not satisfied with the interaction between the pages for job, occupation, and the relevant concepts.
job, in the sense of a role or set of responsibilities for an entity (usually a person)
Currently, the word job in this sense is everywhere in wikipedia, but on the disambiguation page, the only relevant item is Employment, and that only applies for paid jobs where you are in an employee relationship.
job (role) would encompass:
as well as the temporary duties - "My job this week is to update Wikipedia entries." I think there is more here than just a dictionary definition, so that it warrants its own entry... which can be linked to as a universal node for all the types of job roles described in Wikipedia. --Marcinjeske (talk) 00:03, 10 April 2050

editRequested move 24 January 2026
edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: moved. The !vote-count of 7-4, coupled with the data presented by the nom and by Joy, is enough to determine consensus for the first move. Oppose !voters argued without presenting evidence, so there's no reason to downgrade this to no consensus.
There was barely any discussion on what Job ought to be moved to. Based on the four comments regarding that and my discretion as a closer, I'm moving it to Job (role) as per previous history. If there's disagreement about this second move, please open an RM there. (closed by non-admin page mover) Iseult Δx talk to me 04:46, 19 March 2026 (UTC)
- Job (disambiguation) → Job
- Job → ?
– I don't think there's a primary topic here. The current pageviews don't suggest that Work (human activity) is primary by usage, and even back when Job was a stand-alone article on jobs, it was still only coming in fourth in pageviews. I suppose one could argue WP:PT2, but Job (biblical figure) and Book of Job have enough long-term significance of their own that I don't think we're in substantially greater
territory. Disambiguating will also give us more informative WikiNav data to help figure out what people who type in "Job" are actually looking for. - Support The Biblical figure is the main issue here, as he has major long-term significance and high pageviews. It is not evident whether the idea of paid work or the Biblical figure is primary, so a primary redirect is improper. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 07:33, 24 January 2026 (UTC)
- Note: I have also recreated Job, which was an article until it was boldly redirected (IMO improperly). So, it would need to be moved somewhere, like Job (societal role) or Job (term). ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 07:43, 24 January 2026 (UTC)
- Between 2008 and 2014 it was at Job (role), for what it's worth. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 08:21, 24 January 2026 (UTC)
- That works too. It probably shouldn't have been moved away from there. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 18:34, 24 January 2026 (UTC)
- What about Job (human activity)? Thanks, 1isall (talk | contribs) 23:32, 13 February 2026 (UTC)

- Oppose Job to mean an occupation is much more prevalent as a topic than the Biblical figure. LivinAWestLife (talk) 12:17, 31 January 2026 (UTC)

- Support. A "job" can also be an automated process run by a computer, or a slang term for a criminal activity, among other things. So that's one more reason to have job as a disambiguation page. JIP | Talk 00:01, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
- Agreed. The mass views output is suspect enough already. The all-time monthly page views for the major topics mentioned likewise, and whatever late 2022 changes we did they seemed to be detrimental. WikiNav for the disambiguation page has hints of ambiguity, too. The list at The Job is also indicative. (Support) --Joy (talk) 14:28, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose. I think this is the clear primary topic. The only real contender is the biblical figure, but overwhelmingly the role is the primary topic by long-term significance (and everyday usage, of course). -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:13, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose. In these godless times, the biblical guy isn't all that well-known anymore. Clarityfiend (talk) 17:57, 31 January 2026 (UTC)
- The 700 pageviews/day on the biblical figure, way more than on "work", would not seem to bear out that he is not well-known. Otherwise this discussion would not even need to be happening. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 00:23, 2 February 2026 (UTC)
- Comment Why isn't this article called "employment" though? "Job" feels much more as informal and unencylopedic term than the later. Artemis Andromeda (talk) 16:06, 1 February 2026 (UTC)
- There is actually a separate, far longer article about employment. That's in addition to work (human activity). It seems like we could make a Venn diagram of broad concept articles here. --Joy (talk) 17:34, 1 February 2026 (UTC)
- Support per nom.--Ortizesp (talk) 00:15, 2 February 2026 (UTC)
- Support, the biblical book and individual are major topics for this word. Randy Kryn (talk) 02:18, 3 February 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose. The current article is the primary topic. Rreagan007 (talk) 03:55, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- Support - between the book, the profit, and other non-employment lowercase uses of "job", as well as the existence of articles like employment, the current article on jobs doesn't really have a place as primary topic. Red Slash 21:00, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- Relisting comment: Some movement following the first relist. One last try. Iseult Δx talk to me 07:40, 26 February 2026 (UTC)
