COI declaration

edit

Hi, I am an employee at Arnold Ventures and setting up an account to provide factual information to assist this page’s accuracy. I want to abide by the sites’s Terms of Use and guidelines for Conflict of Interest. I am based in Houston, Texas and travel between our Washington, D.C. and New York offices. COI edit request

edit

1) I would like to propose we remove the term businesswoman from the Occupations portion of the sidebox. And add Researcher and Criminal Justice Expert and include University of Virginia and Arnold Ventures to Institutions portion

2) Add ‘Executive’ to vice president in her introduction and add “Doleac is the author of The Science of Second Chances: A Revolution in Criminal Justice, which will be released in February 2026” to the end of her introduction, using this as a source: https://us.macmillan.com/books/9781250886286/thescienceofsecondchances/

Thank you in advance for your review and help, and the opportunity to provide updated, factual information. AL at AV (talk) 17:13, 9 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Not done for now: I would need independent sources on both in order to make these changes. See WP:COI for more on the conflict of interest process and what we need to make changes. Meepmeepyeet (talk) 18:11, 4 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for taking a look at this and for the link to the COI page, I'll review to make sure I'm more familiar and can provide the necessary information in future requests.🤓👍 AL at AV (talk) 18:41, 4 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

COI edits - AL at AV

edit

Hi @AL at AV, I noticed you made several COI edits on this page over the past few months. I am in the process of going through them and seeing what needs to get updated and what can stay. A few notes, as discussed on the COI board:

  • When making notes about what you changed, please specify what you changed instead of just saying "Updating for accuracy." This helps editors to figure out what was changed from revision to revision.
  • I would encourage you to familiarize yourself with the WP:RS page, which helps talk about what sources Wikipedia uses and what we don't.
  • Please be patient. The COI backlog is... huge. Volunteer editors are slowly making their way through the backlog, but they are 1. volunteers and 2. slow.

If I make any changes that you think need to be discussed or reverted, please feel free to open another COI request and ping me. Happy editing! Meepmeepyeet (talk) 18:23, 4 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Meepmeepyeet Thanks for the notes here, this is really helpful and I appreciate all the feedback as I'm learning the ropes.🙏 I'll wait to see what changes you make here and will be sure to post a request and ping you if anything is reverted that I think should be reinstated.👍 AL at AV (talk) 18:44, 4 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
Also, since you're probably in a much better position to do this, could you possibly you get a headshot for Dr. Doleac that looks better than the current photo on the article and get it cleared through the Wikimedia Commons process? I suspect you could procure a higher quality one than what exists. Meepmeepyeet (talk) Meepmeepyeet (talk) 04:36, 5 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hi again 👋 @Meepmeepyeet. This was actually something I've been wanting to do for a while! I'm happy to be able to come back and share that I've now uploaded and confirmed the release for a new photo. Here it is: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Jennifer_Doleac.jpg 📸 Do you need anything else to be able to add this to the article and replace the current photo? AL at AV (talk) 22:27, 12 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
Nope! The photo was been switched out. That is a much, much nicer photo.
I have finished going through and editing the page. For future COI edits, I would encourage you to go through WP:BLP to understand what info we put on biographies of living people and how we write and source said biographies. TLDR, the standard for what information we put in pages such as Dr. Doleac's is much, much higher than the rest of Wikipedia. (Since you are affiliated with Arnold Ventures, you should also review WP:BLPSELF, which deals with BLP COIs.)
Thanks for your cooperation on this. Meepmeepyeet (talk) 23:59, 12 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Adding more information about "ban-the-box" research

edit

Hello! 👋 A few months ago, this article was trimmed and reorganized by independent editors. 👍 Most of these changes were completely reasonable, but the page shake-up did cut a significant amount of content about Jennifer Doleac's research on the effects of "ban-the-box" policies, which is now covered by just a brief bullet point in the Research and policy career section. I've put together a more detailed description of that work: 🤓

In 2016, Doleac and economist Benjamin Hansen undertook research into the impact of "ban-the-box" policies: policies that prohibit employers from asking applicants about criminal records on employment application forms.[1] In their research, they examined hiring data for men aged 25 to 34, comparing those living in states that have instituted ban-the-box policies to those living in states that have not.[2] They concluded that the ban-the-box policies had a negative impact on hiring for Black and Hispanic men without college degrees.[3]

Would it be possible to add the above (or some version of it) to the Research and policy section? 🤔 It's one of the more notable projects Doleac has worked on, as evidenced by the citations from national outlets like Vox and Pacific Standard.

Go ahead: I have reviewed these proposed changes and suggest that you go ahead and make the proposed changes to the page. I made a minor copyedit to the original proposed text and added some interwiki links. I think it looks good to implement! Please do not implement any other changes besides the ones you have explicitly outlined here. Thanks! - Otherwise (Talk?) 14:38, 2 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
I've added the passage above to the article. ✅ Thank you kindly 🙏 for the edits and approval, User:Mustbeotherwise! AL at AV (talk) 19:45, 2 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Of course! Feel free to ping me if you need to create another COI edit request, or any question/request really, I'd be happy to help! - Otherwise (Talk?) 19:47, 2 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
