Name of currency required

There is a sentence in the article, "A treaty was then made, under which certain lands to the value of 1.8 million, including Chanderi District, were ceded ". From the context it could either be 1.8 million British Pounds or 1.8 million Indian Rupees. Also it must be clarified that the value refers to the period in text. Hope someone would do it. Thanks.
