There are two links to the same article on Collective Punishment that are in the See Also section. One should be removed, but this particular article is locked for fear of vandalism. Stuntbear1972 (talk) 17:30, 12 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Yoseph Haddad

edit

Hi @Nehushtani,

Yoseph Haddad’s op-ed is not due for this article.

1. He is a pro-Israel activist writing an opinion piece that I don't think was covered by secondary sources.

2. He has no expertise on South African apartheid or Black experiences of it and is not qualified to comment on whether comparing Israeli apartheid to South African apartheid is offensive to Black people. Visiting the apartheid museum in Joburg and meeting some unnamed Black South Africans does not mean he has expertise in these topics.

3. He does not cite or quote anyone with expertise on the topic, not even the Black South Africans he met.

4. Various Black South Africans (some of whom are mentioned in this wikipedia article) have said that Israeli apartheid is similar or worse than South African apartheid, so it is odd to include Haddad’s personal opinion that they are “cheapening” their own experience.

5. Haddad concludes the op-ed by implying that he is the real victim of apartheid in Israel because he wasn’t allowed to speak at a conference. This is not a serious piece of journalism or scholarship. Rainsage (talk) 02:22, 13 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Saw this discussion and agreed. Also this is the part of WP:BRD where we discuss. I do not think this oped is due for inclusion either User:Bluethricecreamman (Talk·Contribs) 02:27, 13 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Description of suggested change: Put either commas or M dashes (—) before and after "in contravention of international law" in the intro. Change "exploit the region's natural resources at its Palestinian inhabitants' expense." to "...exploit the region's natural resources at the expense of its Palestinian inhabitants." These are minor alterations that I feel improve readability and sentence flow. OrdinaryOtter (talk) 13:16, 22 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Description of suggested change:

I (Smadar Ben-Natan) am referred to in this entry as "B'tselem Director", while I was never the director of B'tselem (Human Rights NGO). The director of B'tselem in the relevant period was Hagai El-Ad. The reference to my publication, "The Apartheid Reports" is correct, I am asking to change only the mistaken title of me as B'tselem director.

Google AI summary

edit

When I search for Israeli apartheid on Google, the first result is this article, followed by this AI-generated summary (based solely on Wikipedia)

"According to Wikipedia, Israeli apartheid refers to allegations that Israel operates a system of institutionalized segregation and discrimination against Palestinians in the occupied territories and, to a lesser extent, within Israel proper. This claim, often supported by human rights groups and some international officials, is heavily disputed, with opponents arguing it is a misapplication of the term and arguing that Israeli policies are based on security needs rather than racial discrimination."

Is this a mischaracterization of what the article states? Yacàwotçã (talk) 03:34, 1 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
