Inventor of radio should be Nikola Tesla

edit

Apparently Nikola Tesla was the inventor of Radio, not Marconi. 120.21.55.90 (talk) 00:02, 10 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Marconi invented the first practical radio transmitters and receivers in 1894. Tesla invented the resonant transformer, which was used in some of the early radio transmitters and receivers to increase the range and became a standard part of radio gear. However Tesla was interested in wireless power transmission and never designed a radio communication system. The resonant transformer was applied to radio transmitters and receivers by John Stone Stone and Karl Ferdinand Braun. Marconi and Braun received the 1909 Nobel physics prize as recognition for their contributions. This history is detailed in the article Spark-gap transmitter. --ChetvornoTALK 01:16, 10 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Tesla demonstrated radio in 1893 in St. Louis some two years before Marconi's first wireless tests and this is considered the first public demonstration of radio communication.

Tesla's 1893 version was impractical for several reasons - Tesla wasn't using a Coherer, for example, and he thought that the radio waves would have to be transmitted via ground. Marconi gets credit for the first practical system. MrOllie (talk) 01:01, 2 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Your reply is wrong again as during the 1893 demonstration which is documented as the first official true radio transmission, Tesla did use Coherers, aswell as tuned circuits, his Tesla Coil and a high frequency oscillator laying out the foundation for modern radio. More, this information is well documented and not hard to research should you take focus of the commercial publicity in favour of Marconi at the time, despite his patent request getting denied in the U.S. due to Teslas Patents already granted. Additionally, financial backing and political connections are what allowed his patent request to be granted in 1904 but has since been invalidated by the U.S Court of Claims in 1935 and upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1943. Furthermore, Marconi might be known for the commercialisation of radio and the transatlantic transmission, but the inventor of the core technology, patent holder and first public display of radio still belong to Tesla with many documents, case law and the patents to prove such claims.
Therefore, I don't get how in the age of information, the Internet of things, world wide availability of national archives at the touch of a button and scholar papers on such topics your arguing about document facts and case law. The remedy therefore may be a simple one by simply renaming the title as Marconi was not the inventor of the radio. Emersey (talk) 04:54, 2 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
We're not going to rewrite the article based on your (mis)interpretation of primary sources. Making personal attacks on people who disagree will not change that. MrOllie (talk) 14:13, 2 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

In the late 1800s, the race to invent the radio was heating up, with several inventors claiming to have made significant breakthroughs. Among them was Nikola Tesla, a brilliant inventor whose work in electrical engineering was widely respected. Despite his contributions to the field, Tesla's claims to have invented the radio were largely overshadowed by the more famous inventor, Guglielmo Marconi.

For years, Tesla fought to prove his rightful place as the inventor of the radio, but his efforts were largely ignored by the scientific community. Even after his death in 1943, Tesla's legacy remained shrouded in controversy and misunderstanding.

It wasn't until nearly a century later, in 2003, that the United States Supreme Court finally granted Tesla the recognition he had long deserved. The decision came after years of legal battles and debates among experts in the field, with the court ultimately ruling that Tesla was indeed the true inventor of the radio.

The decision was met with great excitement among Tesla's supporters, who had long believed that his contributions to the field of electrical engineering had been overlooked. Many saw the court's decision as a long-overdue vindication of Tesla's genius, and a recognition of the incredible impact his inventions had on modern society.

In the years that followed, Tesla's legacy continued to grow, with new generations of inventors and engineers looking to him as an inspiration and a guiding light. The Supreme Court's decision may have been a long time coming, but it finally set the record straight and gave Nikola Tesla the recognition he deserved as one of history's greatest inventors.  Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:1659:3C00:4C63:4A73:D6F6:1955 (talk) 14:33, 15 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Invention of Radio

edit

The invention of radio communication was preceeded by many decades of establishing discovery of radio waves. These development allowed G.Marconi to turn radio waves into a wireless communication system. In the mid-1890s, building on techniques physicists were using to study electromagnetic waves, G.Marconi developed the 1st apparatus for long-distance radio communication. By 1910, these various wireless systems had come to be called "radio" 2409:40E5:8:A141:8000:0:0:0 (talk) 10:23, 8 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

I don't know how to fix this, but this article has been vandalized. The article description includes "wrong it was tesla" above the first image. 2A02:8108:458F:5F00:2C90:D1:C19C:91DC (talk) 12:40, 9 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

@2A02:8108:458F:5F00:2C90:D1:C19C:91DC to clarify more: on firefox mobile the page looks fine, but in the android wikipedia app the vandalism is visible. Maybe its a bug with the android app and the versions? 31.17.200.128 (talk) 12:38, 10 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
