Economy under Verwoerd

edit

This article focuses too much on Apartheid and it does not mention his administration. I remember reading somewhere that under him South Africa had the highest economic growth rate in history, and R1 (the currency) was worth more than $1. If I can find it I will update. (User talk:Johnmars3)

Please remove the title of "The Honourable"

edit

This man was the architect of a gross system of human rights violations in South Africa known as Apartheid. He cannot be referred to as "The Honourable", this is offensive and insensitive to the history of the country. 197.89.150.53 (talk) 13:13, 19 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Proposed Removal of News24 (2004) as a Source

Proposed Removal of News24 (2004) as a Source:

The cited News24 article (2004) offers no substantive historical value. Even its primary claim — that Verwoerd’s office carpet was replaced — is trivial, unsourced, and framed disrespectfully. The article includes factual inaccuracies (e.g., “Tsafendas' motives are unknown”) and fails WP:RS standards. I propose complete removal of this source, or replacement with a better-sourced, encyclopedic reference (if the carpet detail is deemed noteworthy at all). Image of Subject

edit
Image A
Image B

I have reverted the infobox image from Image B to Image A because Image A provides a much clearer and more recognisable view of Verwoerd. Image A shows his face fully, without any shadows obscuring his features, allowing readers to easily see his eyes, nose, mouth, and overall facial structure. This is better for identification for the subject and for presenting him accurately in the infobox.

In contrast, Image B has a shadow covering a significant portion of his face. This makes it difficult to clearly distinguish his features, particularly in a small infobox image, where even minor facial obstructions can reduce the ability to recognise him. Image A is well lit and sharp, aiding fine details in his expression and hair, whereas Image B loses detail in the shadowed areas and appears less clear overall.

The infobox image should represent the subject in a straightforward and factual manner. Image B, because of the shadow, can possibly create a different impression.

Overall, Image A is the most appropriate choice, as it allows readers to immediately and clearly identify Verwoerd. Beegskin (talk) 09:14, 8 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Cum laude

edit

Surely he wouldn't have graduated Cum laude? That's an American classification and going to an Empire university it would have followed the UK form of classification. ~2025-41374-08 (talk) 15:24, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
