Clank?

edit

Does anyone know about the use of the term "clank" to describe hard sci fi? This was the term I had heard used to describe it previously, and I wonder if it's a commonly known term. -- Mike Simpson 19:34, 1 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Andy Weirs Martian listed as film?

edit

Martian listed as film but it was a huge book hit in 2011 and imho the best hard scfi book ever written. 62.65.196.101 (talk) 07:20, 11 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Noticed this is also the case for The Expanse, it started as a book series, not the TV show, should that also be recategorised? 5.67.218.41 (talk) 17:15, 21 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
I agree , both should be added as books , or as both Josephwhyman041104 (talk) 15:30, 20 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

American bias?

edit

The list of hard SF works lists almost exclusively US authors. The title of the article should be changed to American hard science fiction. Wikipdia.illusion750 (talk) 15:26, 21 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

An obviously better solution would be to add a lot of works by non-US authors. Go for it! HiLo48 (talk) 00:07, 22 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Someone removed The Expanse from the list of shows

edit

They did this because they are mad about an argument. The Expanse is definitely hard scifi and should be re-added to the list of shows. 2601:19C:5100:2900:E4B4:BEA1:1FA9:7A3D (talk) 03:32, 5 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

I agree that it's hard SF, but we should only add it if we can find a reliable source saying so. Skepticalgiraffe (talk) 00:02, 28 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Interstellar?

edit

I know a lot of people hate this movie, but it is one of the most popular movies that could be considered a hard fiction. 2001:B07:AE6:7696:90EE:4112:D333:8E37 (talk) 18:05, 21 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Interstellar is fantasy nonsense; it is about as far from hard science fiction as it is possible to get. The fact that so many people think it is scientifically accurate is a sad demonstration of how badly modern education is failing. FillsHerTease (talk) 17:45, 2 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Blade Runner / DADOES are difficult to consider Hard SF

edit

I’m planning on removing the two aforementioned titles from the examples. Only one is sourced, and the source does not explain how it is hard SF. These two works are both not anywhere near as concerned with the science of it all as the others listed are- ESPECIALLY the movie. Blade Runner places its sci fi plot device (replicants) into the plot of the story with their scientific origins living secondary to the thematic and plot importance of them. The Tyrell corporation, which would be the vessel for the hard SF here as they created the replicants, are represented entirely by the replicants and the CEO/creator. Very little time is spent on the science. If anyone disagrees please explain why, if not i’m probably gonna remove them within the next week Bristledidiot (talk) 14:05, 24 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
