Stubb?

edit

Should this be marked as a stubb. Would be nice with a list of artists in this hall of fame. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 88.88.89.36 (talk) 17:27, 12 December 2006 (UTC).Reply

I think the whole guitar center story reads like an AD. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.80.254.7 (talkcontribs) 05:45, 2 July 2007

Clearly an add

edit

The nature and quality of this company has changed so dramatically since they went public and yet there is no discussion or criticism of that change; I'd like to to see a criticism section so folks who have had really awful GC experiences can share them. 207.114.139.254 (talk) 20:56, 6 May 2008 (UTC)BigOldHarry in San DiegoReply

I can understand that people would want a place to discuss issues and critisms of Guitar Center but is this really the place for it? I was under the impression that Wikipedia was supposed to be akin to an online encyclopedia. If that is its working definition then the items listed about GC should be empirical facts without a positive or negative stance. There are many places on the net where criticisms about GC are welcome. Ansuz82 (talk) 20:16, 27 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Merger proposal

edit

I propose that the article Music & Arts Center be merged into this article Guitar Center. Music & Arts Center is a subsidiary and does not appear to be individually notable. A similar conclusion was recently reached regarding Musician's Friend, see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Musician's Friend. Comments? --MelanieN (talk) 23:21, 29 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Since no one has objected, I am going ahead with the merger. --MelanieN (talk) 00:02, 6 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, Musicians Friend actually was individually notable. It's a shame their article was merged. synthfiend (talk) 01:18, 9 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
It sat for what, 75 days? That was sufficient time. Feel free to expand it in this article, if it gets too long it can easily be split out. tedder (talk) 01:43, 9 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Oppose merge: A merge template seems to have been added back in 2016, but there was not further discussion. The Music & Arts Centre still seem active (and growing); given their history, and the expanded article (since 2011 when this was last discussed), an the independent references now on the page, a merge seems unnecessary. Debt and Bankruptcy?

edit

Should we have a section for the enormous debt of guitar center? They're under over 2 billion dollars.  Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.184.9.64 (talk) 15:28, 30 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Notability of albums recorded at Guitar Center

edit

This week, First of October (band) released the album One Week, which was recorded at a Guitar Center in Illinois on October 1st, 2025. Two editors (including myself) added it to this page, but the edits were reverted as non-notable. Starting a topic here to discuss.

I guess talk pages don't allow YouTube links, but the gimmick is that the band writes and records the whole album in a single session, then releases a making of video alongside the album. This is their seventh album. It is available on major music platforms.

What is the notability bar for inclusion in this article? First of October has its own article, plus separate articles for each of its members. The First of October article mostly cites primary sources by the band itself, but there is also a collection of secondary references to journalists and other sources discussing the band. (For comparison, Noah Wall is listed in this article, but does not have its own article.)

As a counterpoint, from a quick googling I can find many user discussions about the new album, One Week, but I can't find any official reviews published by established music critics. 24.19.250.55 (talk) 14:04, 31 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Was a source added to support its notability? Magnolia677 (talk) 14:52, 31 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
No, just a link to the First of October (band) article itself, which has further (unsourced) details of the album (which itself doesn't have an article.)
None of the other albums listed here have references included in the article (although I didn't check their initial edits to see if context was added in the edit notes).
The best source to add, I'd think, would be the making of video which clearly shows the process of recording an album inside an open Guitar Center. I'm not sure if that establishes notability though, plus it's a primary source.
I wouldn't have edited the Guitar Center page to include this on its own, but since it already had a section specifically for albums recorded there, it seemed a worthwhile inclusion. This is the first edit I've made, so I was just trying to copy the established pattern on the article itself, which didn't list sources for these albums. Apologies if I've missed part of the process. 2620:10D:C090:600:0:0:1:B73E (talk) 16:29, 31 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Guitar World ran an article last week on the First of October album and the process of making it. I've added it back to the article with a citation. The other albums listed here could probably be improved with citations as well. ~2025-32388-93 (talk) 07:18, 11 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
