Naming conflict

edit

Apparently "Gorgonocephalus" means both an extinct synapsid and an extand Gorgonocephalidae echinoderm. Anyone know which takes taxonomic priority, and what the new name is of the other? Mokele (talk) 18:29, 2 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well, in that case, why nominate this for deletion? It simply needs to have different content. FunkMonk (talk) 18:45, 2 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

GorgonocephalusGorgon's heads – More interesting common name, plus it connects to the scientific name. • Oppose "more interesting" is not one of the article title criteria. Per Ngrams, Gorgonocephalus is a more common term in most years than "Gorgon's head" (and nGrams can not distinguish mythological references from references to the brittle star). PRECISION and CONSISTENCY are article title criteria. Gorgoncephalus is more precise than "Gorgon's head" (no confusion with mythology), and brittle star genera are consistently title with their scientific names (this is not a group of organisms where there are well known vernacular names for the genera).
