Feminism

edit

“Gilmore Girls” shows feminism and how it works and surrounds everyday lives, specifically of a single mother and her daughter. The show portrays a single mother, who is happy and more than capable of raising a daughter by herself, and her daughter who goes from private school into an ivy league institution. Both Lorelai and her daughter Rory are independent and although they date frequently through the show, their mother-daughter dynamic comes first. As opposed to having explicit statements of feminism throughout the show, it uses strong, independent, and supportive female characters to show how feminism impacts daily life. Hello, thank you for this valuable insight! Do you feel that the Gilmore Girls Wiki page would benefit from a section on feminism as a central theme? Imroberts (talk) 17:48, 30 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
I definitely agree and think "Gilmore Girls" displays feminist themes since it is focused around a mother and daughter duo. However, I do think that 'Gilmore Girls" displays only a certain kind of feminism. Lorelei came from a rich white family and although she ended up leaving and forging her own path, her daughter Rory ended up going back to that rich world by going to Chilton and Harvard with their grandparents money. Additionally, there are a few comments that Lorelei makes throughout the seasons about lesbians, which definitely takes away from it being an inclusive feminist production. Overall, I think it makes sense for the time period, but the feminism it displays is very single lensed, white focused, and still shows a lot of privilege. Title of the series is "Gilmore Girls," not "The Gilmore Girls"

edit

I saw this error and expected to find something to back it up - maybe the show was initially aired under that title in certain markets, for example. But I wasn't able to find any source/justification. Can anyone speak to why a user might think the series has a different title? Xineph (talk) 03:37, 21 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hey, just removed the last paragraph about Rory's boyfriends from the Fandom section. Please keep all opinion editorials off of Wikipedia. Berymtambta (talk) 14:26, 5 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
