Postpartum follow-up
editAfter delivery, Most cases of gestational diabetes resolve; however, professional guidelines recommend that individuals undergo a 75-gram oral glucose tolerance test at six to twelve weeks postpartum to detect persistent glucose intolerance or type 2 diabetes. Long-term follow-up is also advised, as up to 50-60% of individuals with gestational diabetes develop type 2 diabetes later in life.
