– The French Gaumont company is definitely the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. 31.53.108.231 (talk) 15:11, 16 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Gaumont Film CompanyGaumont (company) – Per 2023 discussion at Talk:Gaumont Film Company § No proof of the name containing "Film Company". No primary topic for standalone name per § Requested move 16 October 2016—but given this is French cinema's oldest and most prominent studio, I and some others would beg to differ. – Owing to its long-term significance (WP:PRIMARYTOPIC), the company is the topic most commonly associated with the name Gaumont. Οἶδα (talk) 06:10, 21 July 2025 (UTC)  Relisting. TarnishedPathtalk 09:36, 28 July 2025 (UTC)  Relisting. TarnishedPathtalk 10:50, 4 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

  • Further rationale:
For context, Gaumont was founded in 1895 and is the world's oldest continually operating film company, dominating the industry for over a century. It is widely regarded as a foremost pioneer of film technology/production/distribution and cinema operation, and is credited with shaping the infrastructure of modern filmmaking's studio system as well as developing the narrative film itself. Its historical and cultural significance vastly outweighs all other entries on the disambiguation page.
With the exception of Gaumont (surname), all of the articles listed at the disambiguation page are either subsidiaries, theatres, or related ventures of the original Gaumont company. These topics derive their name from the French company, rather than representing an ambiguous or competing use of the "Gaumont" base title. None of them are independently notable as "Gaumont" in their own right and none rival it in notability or usage; though I am sure plenty of the theatres were often nicknamed as such. However, all of the theatres have not endured under the Gaumont name, having either closed completely or changed their name. A primary topic is one which is highly likely to be the topic sought when a reader searches for this term, and the others not. The unqualified title "Gaumont" is overwhelmingly used to refer to the French film studio, both in English-language reliable sources and in general usage. When people search for or reference "Gaumont", they are most often referring to this entity. A user searching for or linking to "Gaumont" is overwhelmingly likely to be seeking this article. Comparing articles containing the Gaumont name, the company holds the majority of pageviews, with the only significant minority of pageviews going to two of the company's own divisions (Gaumont International Television and Gaumont Animation). Combine these and they hold 90% of pageviews. Wikinav is showing views looking at the dab page overwhelmingly going to the company as well. The French studio is the source, the most recognised usage, and the topic most commonly associated with the name. It is evidently the primary topic. Οἶδα (talk) 06:10, 21 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment (No opinion re: primary topic.) Why outright deletion of the disambiguation page? If the request passes, I would advocate moving it to Gaumont_(disambiguation) over the existing redirect. Apart from the surname, there is also a geography entry that is also wholly unconnected to the company. Regarding the theatres, there is value in having them collected in a list — there isn't a corresponding category or navbox, not all of the UK theatres are mentioned/linked at Gaumont-British, nor is Gaumont-Palace (Paris) mentioned in the company's article. As for the companies section, I don't feel as strongly about its preservation, but will note that Gaumont Buena Vista International gets no mention in the company article proper and appears only via the navbox {{Gaumont}}. — 2406:3003:2007:1F3:B4FC:62FA:6BF7:F6CD (talk) 14:47, 22 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
    • Apologies, thank you for pointing that out. I bungled it by using a WP:ONEOTHER page move as my template. I have now amended the nomination to account for the disambiguation move. I am not advocating for deleting the disambiguation page so your concerns should not be an issue anymore. Οἶδα (talk) 19:55, 22 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
