Aspen birthplace
editThis email from Newell stating his birthplace is going viral on Reddit right now. To those editing the article, is this not covered under WP:ABOUTSELF? wizzito | say hello! 19:23, 27 May 2026 (UTC)
- Viral or not, it is an unverifiable Reddit post. IceWelder [✉] 19:25, 27 May 2026 (UTC)

Good Evening, the Reddit Post Edit of his Birth Place was deleted, rightfully so imo, Reddit isn't a reliable source. But someone in the comments gave a website with archival newspapers of colorado, including the Aspen Times: https://www.coloradohistoricnewspapers.org/?a=d&d=ATW19621109.2.15&e=-------en-20--1--img-txIN%7CtxCO%7CtxTA--------0------
On Page 4 you get births and it includes as i quote: Lt . and Mrs . Donald Newell announce the birth of a son , Gabe Logan Newell , on November 3 at Aspen Valley Hospital . Paternal grandparents are Mr . and Mrs . Clyde Newell of Aspen
Hope archival Newspaper are a reliable source for a birthplace. Foxhowl (talk) 19:45, 27 May 2026 (UTC)
- Added to the article with this source. Regards, IceWelder [✉] 19:47, 27 May 2026 (UTC)
Gabe Newell son
edit[Conversation moved from Popcornfud talk page - Popcornfud (talk) 04:17, 3 June 2026 (UTC)]
Hey, so Gray Newell is stated in source 43 on the Gabe Newell page as being Gabe's son. Just wanted to let you know. HomelessPB&J (talk) 03:43, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
- Hi there. Yes, that's right, but that source doesn't say he's a racing driver, so we can't use it as a source for that information. Additionally, per WP:BLPNAME, we shouldn't really be mentioning the names of children unless they're notable/important themselves.
- I've no doubt that Gray Newell truly is a racer, but before we can add that info we need to find reliable sourcing. Popcornfud (talk) 03:50, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
- I mean he is a professor race car driver though. The page Gray Newell has over 80 sources proving this fact. I can just add a source to the Gabe Newell page for further verification. HomelessPB&J (talk) 03:57, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
- I had a look at that page but couldn't immediately see a source that I'm confident is usable for Wikipedia.
- It relies heavily on driverdb.com, which to me looks like it could be user-generated and therefore not usable per WP:USERG, but I could be wrong on that. I don't see it listed on the list of reliable racing sources at WP:MOTOR/SOURCES.
- I see you've now added a source to sportscar365.com which helpfully specifically names him as the son of Gabe Newell. Assuming sportscar365.com is usable then that should do the trick, but I'm not familiar with the world of racing at all so could be wrong. Popcornfud (talk) 04:18, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
- Yes SportsCar365 is a reputable source in the motorsports landscape. HomelessPB&J (talk) 04:27, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
