Revision
editI deleted the stub tag, since this article has been substantially updated - if some bot adds it back on, though, I promise not to cry...too much. It should be noted as well that my main reference source (Gunnell's SCoALT) is inconsistent and conflicts with some of the information previously presented here and with that of Kelley Blue Book, so the result is a bit of a mishmash. I'll look into it a little further and attempt to clarify if I can - problem is that there's not much research specifically devoted to the Caballero, which makes things tougher. I may also adjust the yearly rundown into something less ungainly - maybe a table for the engine data so I can adjust the headings into a range of years instead. Suggestions welcome, of course. - Running a second draft now, but I do have to sleep at some point. More to come... Duncan1800 (talk) 13:27, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
- Second draft basically complete. If anyone has any reference material (brochures, magazine articles of any kind, other reference works) about the Caballero, please post here and let me know. Also, PHOTOS are desperately needed - a basic photo for the header (to replace the El Camino), and one each for the Amarillo (or Laredo) and Diablo. A shot of the distinctive "Caballero" badge would also be appreciated if possible. I have posted a photo request as well. Thanks in advance! Duncan1800 (talk) 09:42, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
My 1972 GMC sprint compare plate data to Chevy El Camino weights more and has a higher carry capacity of several hundred pounds, has heavier brakes, suspension springs and the electrical wiring’s is heavier gauge. They look similar however they have subtitle enhancements making it HD.
Requested move 21 January 2026
edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: moved. There also seems to be a consensus to split the article into 2. (non-admin closure) Jacksonvil (talk|contribs) 22:07, 31 March 2026 (UTC)
GMC Sprint / Caballero → GMC Sprint – Move to either GMC Sprint, which seems to be the primary name or GMC Caballero. Currently it breaks MOS:ALTNAME and WP:CARNAMES. - Move to GMC Sprint as per nom. 162 etc. (talk) 22:00, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
- Split – The Sprint was replaced by the Caballero; these should be two separate articles. Either that, or both should be redirects to Chevrolet El Camino. Mr.choppers | ✎ 13:40, 22 January 2026 (UTC)
- Renames are allowed to be the same article, just look at Mercedes-Benz GLE. Not stuart60 (talk) 20:54, 22 January 2026 (UTC)
- But it's more than a rename, the Caballero is a whole different car. The Sprint was based on the Chevrolet Chevelle, it sat on a 116-inch wheelbase and measured 213.2 inches overall. The Caballero was based on the Chevrolet Malibu, sat on a 117.1-inch wheelbase and measured 201.6 inches overall. They do not share a single body panel. The other option is to make all of the GMC coupe utilities redirect to Chevrolet El Camino. Mercedes changed the M-class to the GLE halfway through the W166's production run - so not analogous. - Oppose as proposed.
- My first preference would be to split this into two articles per Mr.Choppers - while the separated articles would be a bit short, there's enough content for both to stand on their own. My second preference would be to rename to GMC Caballero instead - without any evidence that the Sprint is the primary topic, I think the Caballero is better-recognized today, being more recent and probably having a better survival rate (production totals were nearly identical, interestingly enough). --Sable232 (talk) 00:35, 23 January 2026 (UTC)
- I would note that the original title of this article was GMC Caballero, and the earliest versions of the article were largely about that iteration and had very little information on the Sprint. If the article is to be split, then this one should be moved back to GMC Caballero for that reason. (If the article is not split, I maintain my second preference above.) --Sable232 (talk) 16:11, 14 March 2026 (UTC)
- Note: WikiProject Trucks and WikiProject Automobiles have been notified of this discussion. TarnishedPathtalk 14:20, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- Support per nom. If a separate Caballero article is warranted, that can be done after the move. Redirecting both to the El Camino article also remains an option after the move. But the current title is a problem that can be immediately addressed here. Otherwise people might think it's acceptable and start renaming other articles accordingly. --В²C ☎ 23:34, 13 March 2026 (UTC)
