Conflicting capital information

edit

The second paragraph states that: "(t)he capital was moved from Saigon (in Cochinchina) to Hanoi (Tonkin) in 1902 and again to Da Lat (Annam) in 1939. In 1945 it was moved back to Hanoi."

That piece of information conflicts with the tabled information (right side):

Capital
Saigon (1887–1902)
Hanoi (1902–1945)
Saigon (1945–1954)

I agree, there is a lot of conflicting information about French Indochina after its re-establishment in 1945. Hanoi was re-conquered in 1946 and a number of government institutions were centered in Hanoi, but the Provisional Central Government of Vietnam moved its capital to Saigon after acquiring the Autonomous Republic of Cochinchina. As far as Da Lat being the capital city, I know that it was planned to be the capital city of French Indochina but I can't find anything about it actually being its seat. In 1945 it was occupied by the Democratic Republic of Vietnam so it would seem unlikely that it was the de facto capital but if someone can find any documents proving thay it was the de jure capital city we could change the infobox. --Donald Trung (talk) 19:50, 1 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

1946?

edit

@Editorfree1011:, just curious but where did you get the 1946 end date from? I have never seen sources use the establishment of the French Union as the end of the Indochinese Federation (a name instituted in this year and used well into the 1950's), so I'm curious where you get that 1946 end date from. --Donald Trung (talk) 19:56, 2 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Donald Trung:, i did not change anything in page "French Indochina" then why do you ask me this ?  Preceding unsigned comment added by Editorfree1011 (talkcontribs)

Zhanjiang

edit

@Vif12vf:, I'd like to inform you that I undid this undoing. While user "Javyriv" didn't list a reason, I assume that this was because the French leased territory of Guangzhouwan today only became the city of Zhanjiang, while for Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos it would make sense to list the entire countries, only a small part of what is today the People's Republic of China was a part of French Indo-China. So it would make more sense to me to specify what part of that country belonged to French Indo-China. If my edit is against some manual of style then feel free to revert it. --Donald Trung (talk) 20:40, 5 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Yes Donald it was. Javyriv (talk) 21:16, 5 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Please change:

  • In the Walt Disney and Intermondia Films' film, Niok l'éléphant, a young Khmer boy from the French protectorate of Cambodia in French Indochina, 'adopts' a baby elephant and raises it as a pet. His father later sells it to a Chinese merchant. The boy recaptures the pachyderm, however, and frees it back into the jungle.

The first part of the article mentions that French Indochina was a confederation from 1949 to 1954, but the infobox mentions that it was a federation from 1949 to 1954 and this is a wrong information. I think someone needs to correct the information in the infobox to match the first part of the article, please change "Federation" to "Confederation". 2401:D800:BF71:7FBD:D6C2:E4AB:E96C:A84E (talk) 09:35, 24 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

In this part, it says that the French troops withdrew from South Vietnam on 28 April 1954. I think there is a mistake in the year, because in fact the French only withdrew from South Vietnam on 28 April 1956. Please change the year of the French troops withdrawal to 1956. 2402:800:9DED:1EB0:DB94:617D:9F75:ED86 (talk) 13:35, 9 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Misspelling of Ho Chi Minh

edit

"...but is not based on academic research since Ho Chin Minh's assertion in the Declaration of Independence of Vietnam on 2 September 1945 is just repeated.[135][136][137][138]"

Ho Chi Minh's name was misspelled as Ho Chin Minh in this part. 2603:7000:3E41:C700:B9A7:3691:2FAC:BACF (talk) 00:00, 20 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Misspelling of occupation

edit

The latest edit as of 20:24, 27 February 2026 misspells “occupation” as “ouccuaption,” which should be fixed. Whether the content of the edit is correct or appropriate is beyond my expertise. ~2026-13186-85 (talk) 13:19, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
