@Jweiss11: You were very helpful with a few other Auburn athletes of yore. This one nags at me. He was pretty prominent. He was captain and center of the South's first good college basketball team, on top of the football stuff. Photos easy to find in both sports. But such a generic name. Also, sources differ on whether he was from Brewton (there was a later Frank Jones from Brewton, confusingly) or Birmingham. Cake (talk) 19:31, 11 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
- Cake, I couldn't find much here outside of his playing days are Auburn. The generic name does make searching more difficult. There wasn't much about him in the 1905 and 1906 Auburn yearbooks here. I did correct his playing years at Auburn. Both the Auburn media guide and contemporary news coverage confirm that he played in 1904 and 1905, and did not play in 1906. - Thanks for trying. As I understand, the 1905 or 1906 Yale basketball team traveled throughout the South, and was beaten or played close by the Birmingham Athletic Club. The Birmingham players like Bob Ware join Auburn and this basically starts SIAA basketball, regardless of a few older Vandy teams. Dribbling was not really a thing until 1909, so the ball had laces like a football for standing and passing into the 1920s. Cake (talk) 19:33, 14 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
