The result of the move request was: moved. Consensus to move; I believe the most supported suggested name is (sound design). CoconutOctopus talk 10:07, 16 August 2025 (UTC)
Foley (filmmaking) → Foley (sound) – Foley is a sound engineering technique that happens to be used in films, not a filmmaking technique itself. Topic has significant coverage in sound engineering outside of film, such as Minecraft § Music and sound design. Current title is the result of a page merge, so I believe it needs to be reevaluated to reflect both original pages. Orchastrattor (talk) 20:45, 2 August 2025 (UTC) — Relisting. - Support + prefer Foley (sound design). Per OP, this discipline is not limited to film and television; it is also applicable to purely audio performances, video game development and other user experience design outside of gamedev. Separate articles are not warranted for its application in other fields since the underlying principles and techniques are the same; instead this existing article can be expanded and wording adjusted to broaden its coverage. Prefer "(sound design)" for parenthetical disambiguation by subject as that is the specific parent discipline (similar to Union (set theory)); "(sound)" can be misread as disambiguation by class (e.g. Seal (emblem)). — 2406:3003:2007:1F3:5F2A:EBFA:FA8C:CFB4 (talk) 08:06, 4 August 2025 (UTC)

- Support Foley (sound). Not really sound design; more sound creation. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:32, 6 August 2025 (UTC)
- Support alternate move to Foley while moving the DAB page to Foley (disambiguation). It's the primary topic, with the only competing topic being a type of catheter, but I'm not sure that's typically referred to solely as a "Foley". ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 11:22, 8 August 2025 (UTC)
- I would actually say Foley (surname) is clearly the primary topic, given all of the other uses of the word are just things invented by people named Foley. Orchastrattor (talk) 17:41, 9 August 2025 (UTC)
- Support Foley (sound) Determining a primary topic will not be straightforward, IMO. Health care workers are familiar with the word "Foley" meaning a common type of catheter. Media production workers are familiar with the sound effect creation system. Members of the general public may be familiar with one, the other, both, or neither. - Note: WikiProject Film has been notified of this discussion. Jeffrey34555 (talk) 05:02, 9 August 2025 (UTC)
- Support Foley (sound design) as a better, more specific disambig for this. "(sound)" feels incomplete or that Foley is say a noise herd audible etc. Adding "design" refines the term. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 18:07, 9 August 2025 (UTC)
