Evolving segment scales

edit

When I look at this car segmentation table, I think I'm looking at the current (2026) sizes of the various segments. And these descriptions are also used in Wiki articles of older generations. But as we all know, cars keep growing. What used to be a C-segment car in the 1970s (like the VW Golf) can now be the size of an A-segment car, the B-segment VW Polo has already outgrown that first generation Golf. And this goes for all brands. E.g. at the moment the 1969 Fiat 128 is called a small family car (which equals B segment), based on its compact exterior measurements, but is definitely was a C-segment car. In the Golf and Polo articles (cars that haven't changed their names over the years), the segment name is correct because we look at it for the 2026 model, also for the 50 year old model. But the Fiat 128, which didn't have successors with the same name, gets the classification based on the 2026 criteria, applied to its 1969 size.

Wouldn't there be a way to show segment sizes in the table that evolve with the generations, so we better know what's what in which decade?
