Pronunciation again

edit

FWIW How to pronounce EVERY Premier League player and managers name has him saying his name first in native manner and then "how would you like commentators to say it? [What country? Every country.]" The video is WP:PRIMARY and converting to IPA would be WP:OR, but perhaps a footnote, e.g. "for Norwegian and anglicised pronunciations see this video", would pass muster? jnestorius(talk) 14:16, 28 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Probably would be more useful than IPA which the vast majority of readers can't read. TylerBurden (talk) 19:30, 28 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
This isn't the place to criticise IPA. Take it up at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Pronunciation. jnestorius(talk) 20:45, 28 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

I am not and expert, but looking at the IPA help page and being Norwegian, I can confidently say that the first vowel is incorrect in all dialects of Norwegian. It is not "e", but rather "æ" or "æ:". The IPA pronounciation should be taken out or corrected by someone with strong IPA knowledge and advanced command of Norwegian/native speaker 88.91.207.193 (talk) 20:33, 31 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

It looks like @AleksiB 1945 may have verified the 1969 Berulfsen source since they restored it? TylerBurden (talk) 21:24, 31 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
I looked up the source. It does not have an IPA transcription, but a Norwegian simplified version. Moreover, it just lists "Håland". The following link shoud give you access to the book from Norway at least. https://www.nb.no/items/45aba4e2cf1a7f0ad6c3bb7ad8853339?page=144 88.91.207.193 (talk) 22:42, 31 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Ok thanks, the WP:ONUS is on whoever wants to add the IPA's to actually demonstrate that it's verifiable, so I've removed it again as WP:SYNTH. TylerBurden (talk) 10:58, 1 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Weird statistics

edit

Can someone explain how Haaland is supposed to have played 347 club matches? If we add them all up, it only comes to 327. Porvari (talk) 20:17, 21 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

I guess you have not counted the 16 matches for Bryne and the 4 matches for Molde 2. I was also a bit confused since these one-season-clubs don't have a "total". Might perhaps be clearer if a total was added also for these clubs. 2A02:587:3262:C900:5845:5506:FEA5:8A51 (talk) 17:52, 2 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

I request to have haaland's nationality changed to British, as he was born in England and remains a British citizen. MultiEntertTunesTeamUK (talk) 18:24, 20 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Not done: Haaland moved to Norway at the age of three and competes internationally for that country. Day Creature (talk) 19:00, 20 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

The fastest player to reach 50 international goals?

edit

According to the linked page List of men's footballers with 50 or more international goals, Poul Nielsen of Denmark reached 50 international goals in only 36 matches, which contradicts the claim that Haaland is the fastest to do so with 46 caps. 62.242.33.83 (talk) 14:12, 27 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Advice would be to check the WP:INLINE references, Wikipedia articles vary in quality and how up to date they are. TylerBurden (talk) 21:18, 27 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Erling Haaland page, the style of play is inaccurate and seems to be a generic ai summary. ~2026-24136-74 (talk) 09:33, 20 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Injuries

edit

Erling Haaland has sustained multiple injuries, most notably his foot injury during the 2023-24 season, where he couldn’t play soccer for nearly 2 months.(54 days, 11 games missed.) ~2026-28750-41 (talk) 19:37, 12 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Basically what i was trying to say there was that I think that someone should add in a few things about erling haaland’s injuries. ~2026-28750-41 (talk) 19:41, 12 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

The newspaper cited at note 7 says he changed the spelling of his name to Haaland after he moved to Red Bull Salzburg in 2019 because he thought that spelling would be easier for international clubs, fans, and the media. I think this would be worth adding, since there the page currently says he changed the spelling but doesn't say why. ~2026-35528-53 (talk) 19:31, 17 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Agreed - added to "Personal life" section. Irregulargalaxies (talk) 03:28, 23 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Not sure if this is related but the citation #2 points to a source that says nothing about his name changing and probably should point to something else instead. And also perhaps this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-ring and also that his father has been recognized in UK soccer with the aa spelling since before he was born.
