Government finding Erie engaged in racially discriminatory practices.
editIn 2023, the Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) issued four public determination letters stating that Erie had violated state insurance laws. Erie punished agents for selling insurance to customers in areas of Baltimore predominantly populated by black and brown people. MIA determined that Erie engaged in "redlining"; racially discriminatory practices. I called MIA; the determination letters are available on request, but are not posted online. Therefore, instead, links to articles published by media outlets are available to cite regarding this issue.
