LearnNet merger

I feal that it would be more appropreate to leave these two articles separate. If any merging is to be done it should be to include LearnNet with an Argyll Centre article sine LearnNet is a program of Argyll Centre which is a School of EPSB. kc4 - the Server Monkey Enforcer 02:19, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

As LearnNet is a new article, I decided to remove the merge tag, and see how this article grows (as a stand-alone article). I have no huge problem with it being a stand-alone article *if* it is of reasonable length, with some reliable sources added (like news stories about it). Perhaps I acted to quickly in assuming it wouldn't grow, so I'll give it some time and see. In particular, the article needs to better explain exactly what the program is, as I first noticed it under the Category:High schools in Alberta and then I read it's offered *through* a school. So is it a school, or is an access vehicle to a school? If you asked a user what high school they attended would they name a school with Edmonton Public Schools or would they say "I attend LearnNet" or "I'm alumus of LearnNet"? This isn't made clear. Lots of schools have online systems, that allow remote access, but we don't give articles to the online system (just as we don't give articles to buses that kids to a school the old-fashioned way). Anyway, if the article is expanded/improved, this may all be clear, and it would be clear why the article needs to stand-alone. --Rob 04:28, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

reorg of list of schools

I find the long list of schools to be less than useful. Anyone object to breaking it down? At the very least Elementary, Middle, and High Schools would be useful, and maybe a category for Others (online, unwed mothers, in-place for the incarcerated or hospitalized, etc) Meters (talk) 07:53, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

Second language courses

I have been unable to source the list of second language courses (as opposed to bilingual/immersion languages). It turns out that there is no district list of, or even decision on, which second languages will be offered. Each school makes its own decision on which languages it will offer. The only way to source this list is to check and reference the course handbooks of all the high schools. This would be a nightmare to reference, and to keep up to date since it would have to be rechecked every year.

Do we even want to include this information? We don't list all of the various sciences, or arts, or trades, or any of the other course offerings. Meters (talk) 05:34, 1 February 2019 (UTC)

List of schools

The list of schools was removed as WP:NOTADIRECTORY but I disagree with that undiscussed removal. It's quite usual to include a list of schools in a school district's or board's Wikipedia article. Meters (talk) 06:16, 16 October 2024 (UTC)

I believe WP:NOTADIRECTORY is pretty clear: "Wikipedia is not a directory of everything in the universe that exists or has existed." If some of these schools are notable (and I'll give the benefit of the doubt to existing blue links for that), then a short list of these within Edmonton Public Schools can be useful to readers. The entirely-too-long list which has been added by User:Meters is not useful; readers who seek further information on specific schools can easily find the link to the official website which is already listed under "External links". 162 etc. (talk) 05:41, 14 February 2025 (UTC)

We have other school district or board articles that include lists of the schools. See Klein Independent School District from WP:WPSCHOOLS's list of "Good" articles for example. We also have standalone lists of schools in boards or districts, such as List of schools in Chicago Public Schools, which is linked as the main article from Chicago Public Schools#Schools. Klein Independent School district probably shouldn't be included as an example, considering that the list was added after the good article review occurred. I believe that it should go under a reassessment before being considered an example. This is the last edit before the article was assessed. Notice how the list of elementary schools is not there. I'm not against having the list here, but, considering this is an encylopedia, to ensure that the article is readable and easy to navigate, we should consider moving the list of schools to a separate page. Theadventurer64 (talk) 20:16, 10 March 2025 (UTC)
