Citing annual GDP growth
editCan a country's annual GDP growth data be cited from data provided by that same country? For example, I see that the IMF is cited on this article (albeit out of date), however, if just looking at Signapore's 2024 GDP, public reporting from outlets such as Bloomberg (on Jan. 1, 2025) and others cite a different figure from Singapore's Ministry of Trade and Industry. PPP
editThe article claims that Singapore has the highest purchasing power in the world. How can this be true, when at the same time it is the second most expensive city in the world? It's GDP per person is slightly higher than that of the US, which is the baseline for PPP calculations.
Singapore is more expensive than New York City, which is the most expensive place to live in the US. ALL other places in the US are cheaper to live in.
So! To recap! Singapore has a higher cost of living than NYC which is the most expensive place to live in the US. It also claims to be CHEAPER to live in than the US due to a positive (above 1) PPP adjustment.
There is some funky smelling shit going on with PPP adjustments.

According to Mercer’s 2024 cost-of-living data, Hong Kong, Singapore and Zurich are currently the costliest cities for international workers.
What many don't know is that the population of Singapore is something like 40% international workers and dependents. If this nearly half the population lives at a very expensive level (higher than NYC) then the locals need to pretty much get everything for free for it to deserve a positive (above 1) PPP adjustment. 98.110.145.90 (talk) 18:07, 27 September 2025 (UTC)
