US invasion
editThere is literally no mention of the US invasion and war fought in Afghanistan for the past two decades. Hard to believe this would not have a significant economic impact. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.32.63.34 (talk) 03:38, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
GDP per capita mismatch
editThe lede says $2000 while the info box says $400.
- Two different metrics, the former is in PPP terms while the latter is in nominal GDP terms. Peripteros (talk) 07:24, 17 April 2026 (UTC)
Issue with final sentence of second intro paragraph
editThe text states that the Afghan government has "long been pleading" for foreign investment to improve the Afghan economy. Is there any written/oral record of a government agent saying this? I feel that it would be helpful to have an example of this. JaredR95 (talk) 01:26, 22 January 2018 (UTC)
Labor force
editShouldn't there be a discussion of the labor force, that is, the availability of people with the skills to improve the economy, the availability of education, and the limitations on the role of women in the labor force?Bill (talk) 05:13, 6 May 2016 (UTC)
Incorrect data
editThe data here seems very wrong - all public sources say that gdp is not even 20bn USD - why are numbers here so off ? 2406:3003:2001:3B3D:3C54:8E26:8667:56F (talk) 02:01, 17 June 2023 (UTC)
Misinformation
editThere is a bunch of misinformation. 2001:4644:3D49:0:68B2:C43C:26FE:2EBF (talk) 20:09, 23 June 2023 (UTC)
All data is wrong
editAll the numbers on this page are wrong. Gdp is barely 20bn usd. 210.176.146.27 (talk) 04:54, 26 June 2023 (UTC)
Falsified data
editEstimates of GDP (PPP) are based on one article, which happens to be the among the top Google search results for 'Afghanistan GDP 2022', from an organization with no international standing.
Figures are estimates based on the informal economy, leading to incredibly inflated figures with no explanation of the rationale or processes that produced such numbers. The organization themselves rate their confidence estimates for each nation-state's figures from A-E, Afghanistan has been rated E ("E: Extremely poor quality").
https://www.worldeconomics.com/Country-Size/Afghanistan.aspx
What is worse is that this page has used the dubious information within the article to produce falsified nominal GDP figures, despite no references within the article itself. The errors have been carried forward to produce falsified GDP rankings and positions that contradict figures within referenced source articles!
As it stands, these figures must be removed. I believe that the most recent official World Bank figures for 2021 be inserted to counter the disinformation that has been left on this page for many weeks now. I will also be referring to figures within the World Bank June 2023 economic monitor report.

It is vital to understand that accurate figures are not yet available due to the lack of information from Taliban-led Afghanistan. While it is tempting to find the most recently available information, this should not be done at the expense of amplifying misleading and falsified information. The World Bank economic monitor reports should be used as a 'next best' source, though it is also incomplete.
Edit: HDI data has also been falsified from a supposed 2023 report that does not exist. The most recent data is from the 2022 report which is based on 2021 data.
User WikiEditWaste appears to be reverting sensible changes to peddle biased misinformation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LeoHoffman (talk • contribs) 17:49, 8 July 2023 (UTC)
- I have removed this from WP:3OR. Third opinions can only be provided where there is a disagreement between two editors that has already been discussed on the talk page. You might want to try WP:RSN if you'd like a second look at the sources you've discussed. If there's edit warring, try WP:AN3. voorts (talk/contributions) 02:39, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
EDIT: A post has been made on the reliable sources noticeboard to assess the verifiability of data from 'World Economics.

- There is now a recognition of the poor quality of the source, especially that the data on Afghanistan is considered 'extremely poor quality'.
- WikiEditWaste refuses to engage in discussion, and continues to disrupt this article. LeoHoffman (talk) 23:22, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
- If the issues is continued disruption, try ANI. voorts (talk/contributions) 23:24, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
- Unfortunately ANI has not led to anything. The disruption is now leading to good faith community edits being reverted, all to push one user's interpretation of a bad source with a pretty clear lack of consensus (three other's have also taken issue!). Are there any other options at all? Thanks. LeoHoffman (talk) 20:46, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
- Spoke too soon, thankfully this has been resolved! LeoHoffman (talk) 21:10, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
- It appears that WikiEditWaste has been blocked as a sock per Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Disruptive editing from WikiEditWaste. Looking at the edit history, the last edit on this article is yours and now the disruptive editor won't be able to mess around anymore. If the editor comes back with more sock accounts, you can probably open an investigation at SPI and reference the ANI thread. voorts (talk/contributions) 21:10, 23 July 2023 (UTC)

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want made. Please detail the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Day Creature (talk) 16:36, 25 December 2025 (UTC)
Uncited hearsay
editEdit https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Economy_of_Afghanistan&diff=prev&oldid=1337648295 added a paragraph in the intro blaming the state of the Afghan economy on the corruption of the warlords and PMs, particularly the last President of Afghanistan. This needs a citation ("is said to be the worst leader of Afghanistan" by whom?) or needs to be removed. Jebob72 (talk) 11:33, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
- Fixed, thanks! Jebob72 (talk) 18:47, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
