History subsections

edit

The history section was getting pretty long, so I broke it up into subsections. However, I tend to try to stick with more standardized section titles...and the current ones...are not. But it's the best I could come up with at the moment. Any suggestions on this? Sergecross73 msg me 20:05, 4 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Regarding the opening sentence "Earthworm Jim 4 is a video game in the Earthworm Jim series"

edit

Right now, the article lead opens with this statement. I think this is misleading, as the game is, at best, in development hell, and may not even exist as more than a concept. There's no sources that proves that EJ4 exists in any tangible form. I suggest we change the opening accordingly. We could call EJ4 can "upcoming game", though this IMO doesn't reflect that there's no sources confirming the game is in development as of 2024. Maybe "announced game"? Cortador (talk) 21:49, 8 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

It could be something like "proposed game". Sergecross73 msg me 23:20, 8 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'll change it to that for the time being. Thanks for the input! Cortador (talk) 08:55, 9 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Repeated attempts to remove infobox

edit

Starting a discussion since there's a bit of a back and forth, but I'm having a bit of a hard time understanding the problem. I'm not sure I'm aware of any guideline or guidance that would justify outright removal like this. Even if its outright cancelled, we still generally listed cancelled status and planned platforms on the infobox. (See something like WP:GA Cry On for exapmle.) I believe it should stay in there. Sergecross73 msg me 20:36, 9 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

The majority of the article isn't about the proposed Amico version of EWJ4, the Amico itself doesn't even exist as a product, and it is dubious whether anything was ever done on the game beyond an announcement and an animation cycle. The infobox is not needed and misleads readers into thinking this was ever more than a mere proposal. Cortador (talk) 21:35, 9 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
An infobox does not automatically mean, or communicate to the general reader, that a video game has been released or even is in active development. Plenty of projects are cancelled during development, including high profile ones (anyone remember Agent?) or games that turn into something altogether (Super Mario 128).
There are dozens articles on supposed vaporware software and video games, and they have infoboxes also (see Category:Vaporware, Category:Vaporware video game consoles or Category:Vaporware video games).
If you so strongly feel this needs to be more clear, why not just add "cancelled" to the 'released' field? soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 08:13, 10 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Right, but everything in the infobox is discussed by reliable sources and in the article, as Soetermans and I have shown, we generally list announced platforms for cancelled games when they never release in any capacity. And there is no guidance precedent that says "if the game was only announced for a platform for a short part of its history don't add it to the infobox" or something. If anything, we should be adding that it was announced for the Wii for a period, not scrapping the whole infobox. I understand the things that you're saying, I just don't see how they amount to a justification of deleting the whole thing. Sergecross73 msg me 13:21, 10 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
