In the "Origin and pronunciation" section of this page, on the last paragraph, the word "meme", after the words "In Polish Internet this", is spelled "mem". 9AsphaltLegend (talk) 02:31, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
Done That typo, and others that were made in the same edit, have now been fixed. Damien Linnane (talk) 03:10, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
Word "origin" erroneous
editThe statement that the word "doge" originated as an internet meme is not factual. My suggestion is to please make a reference to the "Doge of Venice" as a more original use of the word "doge." Perhaps a link on the Doge Meme page. (I was attempting to discover what the term "doge" referred to originally. It sounded familiar... thanks. 2603:7080:F00:DC4:A4E1:F87:F6B0:788A (talk) 16:56, 3 February 2025 (UTC)
- What reliable source do you have that says this? EvergreenFir (talk) 18:18, 3 February 2025 (UTC)
- There seems to be a preponderance of sources on the existence of the word doge as an Italian city state ruler in the article Doge (title). But this article does not say that the word doge originated as an internet meme, though it does discuss previous uses of the misspelling doge to refer to dogs on the internet before the famous Shiba Inu co-opted the word. ✨ΩmegaMantis✨blather 04:07, 4 February 2025 (UTC)
paragraph in word origin and pronunciation section should be removed

i don’t understand why over half of this section is talking about “other characters” inside the pronunciation and origin of the word doge. im going to copy and paste it but i think its irrelevant and should be removed from this wiki as it doesnt have anything to do with doge but just other dog memes. they aren’t even a part of the origin of this 2013 meme this has nothing to do with it at all and if it wont be deleted then maybe it should be moved to another section, but i dont see another section in this wiki page where this would be relevant. the information is well sourced and all that but it just seems unnecessary and completely irrelevant esp considering this idiot elon musk is going to be giving this wiki a lot more clicks for his little department of “efficiency” (got off track there sry)
“Some of the other characters used in the meme are based on photographs of real dogs. Cheems is based on an image of a dog named Balltze, from Hong Kong; he was adopted at the age of one and was nine years old in 2020. He had leukemia and was undergoing thoracentesis (the draining of fluid from his chest) when he died on August 18, 2023, aged 12. Walter is based on the bull terrier Nelson, who originally became popular in 2018 after his owner, Victoria Leigh, posted a picture of Nelson to Twitter, with the caption "When u open the front-facing camera on accident." In 2020, rumors of Nelson's death began to circulate the internet, although they turned out to be false.” Gish1991 (talk) 18:22, 15 March 2025 (UTC)

- Anything related to this would only be acceptable to add to the article for Dogecoin, not here. Damien Linnane (talk) 02:33, 1 June 2025 (UTC)

editI think it should be mentioned that the Doge dialect is a form of Catachresis, because it's one of the best examples of that form of wordplay, but not the only kind. 101.100.148.176 (talk) 20:48, 21 October 2025 (UTC)
