CCTV

edit

Just for the record, the police's exhaustive analysis of CCTV footage had nothing directly to do with Copeland's eventual capture. He was only tracked down after one of his workmates (who also worked with Copeland's dad, all of them employed on the building of the Jubilee Line extension) recognised his picture in the newspaper and told the police who Copeland was. Even then, the police were slow to take action and the small number of officers who eventually went to Copeland's address weren't even armed! If Copeland had decided against coming quietly, the arrest could have ended in disaster because Copeland had a loaded crossbow next to his bed! I'm not knocking the police, I'm sure they tried their hardest, but if it hadn't been for the intervention of Copeland's workmate, they may not have captured him before he set off another bomb or two! Scary stuff!!  Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.185.113.67 (talk) 02:41, 15 October 2003 (UTC)Reply

The police analysed thousands of hours of CCTV footage to find an image of the bomber which was publicised immediately in the press leading to his arrest. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.0.146.105 (talk) 00:35, 27 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Not a terrorist...

edit

I came to this article via List of terrorist incidents in the United Kingdom which mentions Copeland in a sub-list of "terrorist-like incidents". Does anyone know why this guy was charged with murder and not terrorist offences? --Kick the cat 00:59, 30 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Probably because he's not a member of any recognized terror group, rather he's a lone nut with fireworks and nails. This doesn't make him less of a murderer, just less substancial. --smb2a01 July 2007 (UTC)

Because anti-terror laws exist for the sole purpose of enabling the institutionally racist police to harass minority communities and intimidate demonstrators. If a Muslim, Irish person or anti-war protester were to set a nailbomb, News International would be baying for their blood.Lindsay40k (talk) 21:26, 24 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Because he is called a criminal, without any political intellect, although his links with the BNP etc are made much of. It is the same with the way he is frequently referred to as insane, and held in an institution for the insane, yet was tried and convicted as a sentient criminal. 84.71.13.138 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 00:31, 8 April 2009 (UTC).Reply

"anti-war protester were to set a nailbomb." That's a cure that adds to the disease. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 132.156.43.8 (talk) 13:28, 19 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

The neo-fascist line on terrorist organisation is inspired by William Pierce, who advocates "leaderless resistance" of the type that Copeland was carrying out--Streona (talk) 18:01, 2 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Myatt connection apparently not cited

edit

"The man believed to inspire David Copeland was David Myatt, a National Socialist Movement leader and leading figure in Combat 18 who later converted to militant Islam. -- I didn't see any mention of this in the cites given for that paragraph. Please cite if returned to the article. (Or if it is already cited, where?) -- 201.37.230.43 (talk) 16:05, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

"Homophobia"

edit

I've removed this category as an inaccurate portrayal. Copeland is entirely known for his bombing campaign. While this took place in a "gay district" it is also worth noting that this was a centre of immigration, and given that he's repeatedly claimed his sole intent was to cause a "race war" there's no reason to assume that homophobia played a part. If someone can provide reliable references showing something different (please, not The Sun) I'll happily reinclude it. Ironholds (talk) 17:56, 30 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

You've got to be joking. He bombed a gay pub. It's clear that homophobia was the primary issue here, regardless of what Copeland himself claims. Yes, he has issues with race as well but this is not an either/or situation. He can be racist AND a homophobe. Category restored. 80.47.118.162 (talk) 18:13, 17 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

BNP description

edit

A far right, anti-immigration party? No. They are a racist party, specifically white supremecist. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 150.237.85.247 (talk) 14:11, 1 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

CT scan or X-ray?

edit

The caption of the photo of the baby with the nail in its head says "X-rays..." but the detailed information of the .jpg says "CAT scan". Which is it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gjemmott (talkcontribs) 13:00, 18 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Improvement

edit

I think the article could be improved by adding more detail of the victims and effect on the victims lives. There is a memorial to the man who died inside the pub in Soho.--Hemshaw (talk) 20:45, 27 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Nonfree images

edit

PARAKANYAA, did you possibly misunderstand which image was removed? I didn't remove the image of the bomber (he's central to the article, and it's extremely unlikely anyone would ever be able to photograph him, so I think that one's justifiable). Rather, I removed the image of an X-ray of a wound from the attack. The article text already makes very clear that people were injured and killed in the attacks, so I'm not sure what contextual significance that image adds that's not there from text alone. @Seraphimblade ...whoops. Self reverted. I agree with your assessment, I misread the wikitext. PARAKANYAA (talk) 23:41, 19 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
