Historicity of Genesis

edit

Compared to other creation myths around the world, such as the Enuma Elish and the Epic of Gilgamesh, the Genesis Creation Narrative (including the Flood Narrative) reads more like history than myth. Genesis is set apart from other creation myths around the world in that it is written in the style of a historical narrative. Very unusual for a creation myth. Why doesn't the Wikipedia article say that the Genesis Creation Narrative "reads more like history than myth" compared to other creation myths, perhaps with its own words?WorldQuestioneer (talk) 23:26, 12 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Because we don't write whatever we want or find to be the case in articles, we include what reliable sources have to say for a given topic, in proportion to how prevalent each aspect or claim is within said body of sources. Remsense 🌈  23:30, 12 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
it is written in the style of a historical narrative" I don't see any particular imitation of historical narratives in the text. "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. And the earth was waste and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep: and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light." It sounds like a very typical once upon a time tale, in the style of Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm. When I first heard the silly tale at the age of 5, I asked a teacher why there is no Darwinian evolution in the text. Dimadick (talk) 10:20, 13 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Myth or Account?

edit

At the beginning of the article, it says creation myth with a link to the "creation myth" article. However throughout the rest of the account it refers to the narrative as an account. Shouldn't it be consistent throughout? I would even say a more neutral word like "narrative" or something should be used throughout the article to promote a NPOV. "Myth" is specifically a fictional tale, whereas "account" is something that really happened. People believe differently about this, so neither word should be used in my opinion.
