Cheating the machine............

Could we mention that it is possible to cheat the coinstar machine if you put in washers, foreign coins, exc., and that if you get caught, you will most likely be thrown out of the place you are at? Your certainty is completely mis-placed. The precision with which the machines identify coins is quite high. Several different properties of the coins are checked. The likelihood that you can toss in a pocketful of washers and walk away with any money is essentially non-existent. Sean Martin 16:20, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

i agree, this seems extremely unlikely. then again, the japanese subway system had such a chronic problem with this in the 90s that the staff started leaving the washers in the machines to give back as change to the next guy! the ultimate "pass the buck"!! Article Assessment

Rated this article as stub class of mid importance. This article blends the Coinstar Company and the Coinstar machine too much. It should focus on the company, including history, business model, stock history, etc. There should be separate sections on the company's venues and products, such as the Coinstar machines, movie vending and other items mentioned in the article. It is in heavy need of citations for much of the content provided and needs some general over all clean up. Adding the {{Infobox Company}} infobox would also be good. Processing Fee

2025 now.

machine near me (US/supermarket not bank) lists 12.9% + 99c flat fee. which equates to 2.6% more if the average batch counted is $38.

plus, it says amounts under a 99c minimum are forfeit. i'm not sure, but i think that could be interpreted as meaning the final 99c in a larger total as well. as in, your final total after both fees deducted comes to $27.83, say, i'm thinking maybe u only get $27.

does anyone know?

i checked 2 machines recently (both in supermarkets) and the fee is now 12.9% + 59c flat fee. i am not sure if i misread that on previous visits, or if it has indeed gone down. but i double triple quadruple checked this time, definitely "59".

Question of Neutrality

I have nominated this article for a neutrality check since much of the article reads as if it has been copied and pasted from a corporate prospectus. This may be in part due to a lack of sources, but it is still a problem that needs to be addressed. --chemica (talk) 15:20, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

I understand your concern, but really I don't think that is the case. The only exception was in the competitors section where a competitor was named. The neutrality nomination has been up since May of 2010 (assuming) with no response to this or other major complaints (that I can see), so I will remove the tag for the time being. Charitable Donations

Competitors listed?

Please excuse me if I am wrong, but having the competitor listed and having a section here seems like nothing but free advertisement for the competitor. It ads no value to the current article except to help the competitor who was conveniently linked. I am removing the competitor from the article. Dstrausser83 (talk) 05:14, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

I kept the second half of the Competitors section because it talks about what some banks are doing to counter Coinstar, I felt that was relevant... just not the part giving kudos out to a direct competitor, I didn't think that was too kosher. Dstrausser83 (talk) 05:16, 14 January 2013 (UTC)
