Merge with Midlands Co-operative Society?

edit

Comments? --KeithbobTalk 21:26, 26 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Yes, this page should not have been created. The Midlands Co-operative Society article should be re-named Central England Co-operative as that is what happened. 163.167.121.152 (talk) 10:27, 28 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Merger to form OurCoop

edit

I'm wondering how we best present the merger of Midcounties Co-operative and Central England Co-operative to form OurCoop, and whether we should have a new article for OurCoop.

As co-operative societies this is a merger in the sense that it is not one business buying another – the memberships merge, all the legal obligations merge, the boards merge etc. Strictly speaking, Midcounties was transferred to Central England, and it is Central England that continues to exist as a legal entity in name and registration number.

However, multiple reliable sources describe the result as a new society. The BBC described it as a merger to form a new organisation; Co-op News described it as a new society formed from the merger of Central England, Midcounties, and Chelmsford Star; while The Grocer described it as a new society. — LittleDwangs (talk) 20:23, 14 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Syhrwastaken Any thoughts? — LittleDwangs (talk) 20:27, 14 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
The legal entity Midcounties and Chelmsford Star merged with is Central England Co-operative Limited, and such I would suggest the article remain as-is with the updates I have made today. Additional work is needed to cite up-to-date sources. Syhrwastaken (talk) 21:04, 14 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Just to add - feel free to suggest or make additional changes. Unfortunately, as you say, we're in a position where reliable sources contradict the actual result of the merger. My position is since Central England Co-operative is the legal entity post-merger, it should be the article for OurCoop as a new trading name. Have a look at my edits and see what you think :) Syhrwastaken (talk) 21:16, 14 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
