Hi, you have forgotten to add Afghanistan to the list of central Asian countries. Thanks ~2026-11705-76 (talk) 05:37, 22 February 2026 (UTC)

Adding Afghanistan
editThis edit request has been answered. Set the |answered= parameter to no to reactivate your request. |
- What I think should be changed (format using {{textdiff}}):
Afghanistan should be added to the countries that are Central Asian.
- Why it should be changed:
Afghanistan is usually included in the definitions of Central Asia due to its geographic location along with its linguistic, cultural, and historical connection with Central Asia. The country has Central Asian ethnicities such as Tajiks, Hazaras, Uzbeks, etc. Also, the Persianate culture of the country is akin to cities in Central Asia such as Bukhara and Samarkand.

Article Spring cleaning
editHi all, I'm new to the project. I noticed a few quick edits that needed doing (which I've already taken the liberty to implement):
- 2x typos (uncontroversial)
- Re-assigned 'Historical regions' from H1 heading to sub-heading. Rationale: This section did not feel at the level of classic headers (eg History, Geography, Culture, Economy) and fitted naturally under Geography.
And because it seems I can't resist a rabbit-hole, I noticed a bunch of other things that need doing. Here are some of the edits I'm planning (pls feel free to get in touch if you have any views):
- Find a better flow for the whole article so the Geostrategy section doesn't sit on its own on the end. Geopolitics comes from the interplay between politics, geography, security and economics/trade, so there has to be a better way of organising the article which leads to this section more seamlessly. It certainly shouldn't follow on from Demographics.
- Add a sub-section on water management/scarcity – I'm thinking under Geography or Climate, but open to alternative suggestions.
- Move the International cooperation sub-section from the Education, science and technology section to the Economy section. And potentially expand to talk about the current impetus towards regional economic integration.
- (If I find the time/courage) Make the Education, science and technology section more about education, science and tech – it's currently heavily centred towards research, which is fine but only narrowly talks to the section heading. I'm not an expert on this so it will take a fair bit of research.

- Hi all, I've made a bunch of edits on this article, in line with what I outlined above. I feel these improve the flow of the article and its content, but happy to discuss the edits and explain my rationale if anything needs clarifying. KTnow (talk) 14:03, 20 April 2026 (UTC)
Infobox image
editThe in the map displayed in the infobox, the westmost part of Kazakhstan is not colored in, presumably because it is in Europe and not Asia. This border doesn't seem to be mentioned in the article nor do the other maps agree with it, all including the entirety of Kazakhstan (barring the USSR defined map which omits all of Kazakhstan.) I think it should be amended to include the rest of Kazakhstan but wanted to see if others disagree considering its prominent position. Plorbis (talk) 13:39, 27 March 2026 (UTC)
- Addendum: the article starts saying 'most of Kazakhstan', I still think its strange to use Europe as a border for a term used to refer to countries, not continents. Plorbis (talk) 13:42, 27 March 2026 (UTC)
