Where cardi grew up

Belcalis Almanzar, Cardi B was born and raised in The Bronx, New York and also spent a lot of time with her grandmother in neighboring Washington Heights. Greetings

Not too long ago, I had changed the reference names of two references in this section of the article; ofcourse, in good faith.

I was corrected and thank you for that. I agree the previous one was better.

However, I would like to know: is using the word "Billboard" preferred for a ref. name? Especially when its such a common word and there's references all over the article comprising citations from that source?

Or do other references get differentiated by a character or two if the same word is user more than once?

(I think I'm kind of an amateur maybe, so this is just a question. /lh /gen)

Wikipedia:NAMEDREFS says that reference names should have semantic value. But it's also importnat that they're defined and used correctly. Your edit changed some and didn't change others, leaving those footnotes undefined and causing referencing errors. -- Mikeblas (talk) 17:03, 26 October 2023 (UTC)

Pinging Capricornsgroove. I'm not sure why we couldn't have followed WP:BRD on this, but we have a dispute over the categories Category:African-American women rappers and Category:African-American women songwriters. Capricornsgroove, you're at odds with the subject's self-identification and multiple reliable sources already cited in the article. She's a Black American, whether or not you consider her an African American, and these are the categories for Black Americans. This is a consequence of having the overarching main article African Americans cover Black Americans as well, as is common in most reliable sources and the US Census. Incorrect accent mark on last name

Image for infobox

I added a new photo for the infobox, as while the current one is the most recent free-use photo of Cardi B, it is also (in my opinion) quite low-quality and blurry due to it being taken from a YouTube video. I replaced this image with one I thought of better quality, however this was reverted by an editor who disagrees. There are a number of images available on Wikimedia Commons that I believe to be higher quality than the one currently used, even if they are older. Here are some examples:

  Option 2: The image I added, Cardi B at the West Hollywood Pride Parade in 2022

  Option 3: Cardi B in 2021

  Option 4: Cardi B at Openair Frauenfeld in 2019

Personally, my preferred options are either Option 2 or Option 4 -- I think Option 4 is likely the best as the highest-quality photo, even if the candid shot is not ideal. In my opinion, Option 1 is obviously the lowest-quality of the five images, even if it may be the newest, and there are better alternatives available. What are fellow editors' thoughts?

@ChrisBS: My edit adding one of these images was reverted (and incorrectly marked as a minor edit) by you, with the reasoning that "The main photo must be the artist's most recent and one with a clear shot of their face." I understand if you have concerns with the image not being as clear as the other one (though it is of a higher quality), but I am not familiar with any guideline that indicates that we must use the most recent image. In my opinion, the current image is low-quality and unsuitable. I sought comment here before boldly adding what I thought was a better alternative after not recieving any responses. Option 1, 3, or 4 are the best options here in my opinion. I would choose 1 because it the most recent and looks the most like her now. However, I am fine with 3 or 4 if those are picked.
