Captain Commando and Bionic Commando
editWhat's the connection between Captain Commando and Bionic Commando? If Bionic Commando ends in 198X and Captain Commando is born in the year 2000, it is likely that Radd (Ladd) Spencer is Captain Commando's father, I think.
- There is no connection. It's just a coincidence. Besides, "Bionic Commando" is known as "Top Secret" in Japan (and thus has no relation to "Senjou no Okami", AKA: "Commando").
Captain Commando in Section Z?
editI translated and read the French Wikipedia article for Captain Commando, and it tells that Captain Commando appeared in Capcom's 1985 title, Section Z, but he looked very different compared to his current look. Is this a coincidence?
Infobox + Cleanup
editMore than merge to Captain Commando, better improve this article. I don't want it happened the same than Jin Saotome (merged to Cyberbots article).
Merge
editObjecting to it: he existed well before the game did, and being a mascot there has to be *something* discussing the character's design and creation as well as reception. This kind of stuff wouldn't belong in the video game article.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 03:04, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Merge again
editI chainsawed most of the original article, removing some of the fanwankery, while adding separate sections covering the mascot and the video game character individually, and I still don't see the purpose of keeping a separate article for the video game and the character. His appearance as a mascot in the packaging of early games is trivial at best and all of his video game appearances are based on the Captain Commando rendition of his character anyway. Jonny2x4 (talk) 07:05, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
- No objection at this point. It might help to buffer the video game's article if done: I was hoping we'd luck out like we did with Poison but that doesn't seem to be the case.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 15:36, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Hey, I'll be reviewing this. Expect comments by the end of the week :) DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 08:24, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
Review: Hey, well done on the article! You clearly did a lot of work and research and you should be proud. I have done a copyedit - There were various terms = such as Capcom, Visor and Space Opera - that some readers may not know about, and so I linked them per WP:READERSFIRST. I also made some small grammar fixes etc. Earwig shows no copyright issues (yay!) and I cannot see any major problems. Here are my comments:
Lead - "During this campaign, the North American instruction manual for Section Z stated he was the protagonist of the title" - Could you please clarify which title?
Appearances:
- "they rediscovered the Captain Commando character" - Can you please clarify who "they" are? As, when was this? (E.g. which year?)
- Fixed.
- Can you briefly explain who Junichi Ohno is?
- Fixed.
- "Standing 6 ft (182 cm) tall, Captain Commando is a blonde American man with short hair slicked back and a visor over his eyes." - Can you please clarify when this is? I think some readers may find this confusing as a previous sentence had said that the character later became brown-haired. The rest of the paragraph could also use some clarity over which version of the character this is referring to.
- Fixed.
- "that has a gold star on the right pectoral" - Could you please link "pectoral"?
- Fixed.
- "who felt the character carried the company's name on his back" - Could you please clarify what this means?
- Fixed, changed to a quote.
- This article could do with a free image or two - perhaps adding a picture of Ryōtarō Okiayu?
- I'd rather not as it's already using three images overall; more would be overkill, and knowing what Okiayu adds nothing to the article/feels decorative.
Critical reception:
- Other than the very first sentence, I think that the first paragraph should go in "appearances" as it is more suited there - especially "In 2025, Street Fighter series director Takayuki Nakamura declared the Captain Commando game as part of its shared universe on social media website Twitter". Alternatively, you could rename the section to something else (E.g. "Later development and critical reception") to make it suit better
- Fixed.
- "In this manner, combined with his lore, he came across as more "bored bully than a hero"." - Could you please clarify that this is the critic's opinion about the character? It sounds like it is talking about the critic themself.
- Fixed.
- There are several instances (such as the above sentence) where there are opinions presented as fact in this section. Could you please fix these by clarifying that these are the critics' opinions and/or putting them in quotes?
- Fixed any that may be vague?
- "in light of other beat 'em up protagonists seeing their own revivals" - Could you please give an example?
- Fixed. Cited his mention of Double Dragon in that context.
- "Luke Plunkett from Kotaku called the character his favorite Capcom hero, describing him as "made entirely of blonde hair, sunglasses and 100% pure awesome"." - As this has a quote, it needs a inline ref at the end of the sentence per MOS:QUOTE
- From past history on these, I've been told it's best to put the quote at the end of the paragraph when citing statements from a source, as in this manner they're all paraphrasing or partially quoting these individuals, even at a Featured Article level.
- Could you please clarify what "coin-op titles" are?
- Fixed. Changed to game.
- There are a lot of instances where it is unclear if it is discussing the character, the critic or someone else - can you please clarify?
- Fixed?
- Is there any information on how the general public/video game players/viewers/readers thought of the character?
- Other than what was already stated, not really. A lot of times it's advised to avoid those statements because it can be read as churnalism.
- Some of the sentences are quite idiomatic and could be hard to understand - could you please fix these by changing the wording and/or putting it in quotes?
- I'm not sure what this is in reference to. I've been typically advised to minimize quotes usually and paraphrase where possible.
Furthermore, it would also be great if you could archive the remaining sources.
- Should be done.
Please let me know if you have any questions at all or need any assistance! Once these have been addressed, I will do a source spotcheck and hopefully pass the article :) Well done again!
- I fixed what I could, a few things up in the air so let me know if any additional fixes are needed.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 17:23, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hey, thank you for your changes :) I have spotchecked Sources #2, #16, #17 and #18. I will pass the article - well done! DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 17:54, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
