Michael Hanline

Another success: http://californiainnocenceproject.org/read-their-stories/michael-hanline/ I don't know how this should be incorporated if the rest of the "12" aren't free yet. HTH HAND —Phil | Talk 17:31, 23 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Overly detailed and COI concerns.

edit

Regarding this edit. This is probably obvious, but the level of detail is almost farcical. These sections rely far too much on WP:PRIMARY sources, such as listings and press release (and Facebook posts!) from CIP. There is also a redundancy problem, as some of these incidents have their own articles.

I also think it's very likely that this article, and the biographies of several people associated with this group, have been edited for pay without disclosure, which is a violation of Wikipedia's terms of service (WP:PAID). That issue is discussed at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard#QuisLex (perm).

Since these details were adding by the same editor, these issues are closely related. The way to resolve this is for an impartial editor to review these sources and trim excess details, or details which are poorly sourced. Grayfell (talk) 06:34, 10 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Proposition 66

edit

Not sure if it's relevant to this item, but I see that several of the cases took 10 years plus before an exoneration took place. Should there be a mention that Prop 66 was passed and therefore sets a maximum time limit of ten years from time of sentencing, after which there can be no more appeals.2A02:8084:26E0:AA00:11CC:F70B:115A:2012 (talk) 13:47, 11 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Daniel Larsen

edit

The link to the Daniel Larsen case no longer exists in the article about Kamala Harris. It appears to have been removed some time in 2019. the reference is effectively a dead link and no other relevant article appears to exist. According to WP:CRIMINAL, people wrongly convicted of a crime can be the subject of an article, consistent with WP:BLP1E. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 09:32, 15 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Request to correct inaccurate information

edit

Hello, editors! I have a conflict of interest regarding California Innocence Project, I am an employee of California Western School of Law (CWSL), the law school that hosts this clinic, so I am not making direct edits. However, I would like to request a correction for the following inaccurate information.

Current incorrect information:

- “In July 2024, Amy Kimpel began as the executive director of IJC and continues to partner with Baca's team at Cal-IA."
- Additionally, I’ve noticed an error in the URL/hyperlink listing for “Website” in the infobox. It currently leads to an invalid webpage. Recommended fix is below.

Issue with this information:

- The “…and continues to partner with Baca’s team at Cal-IA” is no longer accurate. The partnership with Megan Baca and Cal-IA was temporary, and this is even explained in the sentence prior to this one that Baca served as an interim executive director. The current executive director Amy Kimpel is now well-established, and the clinic no longer partners with Baca and Cal-IA.
- Context: I’m not sure why this language was originally published, but we believe a former employee made some edits as an IP user to this article. I do not know why this was done without disclosing COI, but the organization would like to go through proper methods with Wikipedia moving forward. The article was later updated by more experienced editors, and I don’t see any other inaccuracies or outdated info in the article. (Except for the clinic's website URL in the infobox.)

Suggested correction:

- "In July 2024, Amy Kimpel began as the executive director of IJC."
- Updated website link: “https://www.cwsl.edu/experiential_learning/clinics/california_western_innocence_and_justice_clinic/”
- It is probably some technical reasoning beyond my expertise but removing the .html at the end of the current URL is the fix.

Supporting sources:

- California Innocence Advocates – Hyperlink: https://www.calinnocence.org/megan-baca - This is Megan Baca’s bio from the Cal-IA organization mentioned earlier. It explains that she was an interim director for the Innocence and Justice Center at CWSL. It carries no mention of continued partnership.
- San Diego Union Tribune – Hyperlink: https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/2024/02/18/san-diegos-powerhouse-innocence-project-closed-its-doors-heres-who-hopes-to-fill-the-void/ - This is a paid subscription local newspaper but is a legitimate press source. It contains a lot of additional information but does confirm that Megan Baca was working with CWSL on an interim basis and that Amy Kimpel was hired to be the executive director.
- Attorney Legal Counsel – Hyperlink: https://www.attorneylegalcounsel.com/san-diegos-powerhouse-innocence-project-closed-its-doors-startups-are-hoping-to-fill-the-void/ - This is not a legitimate source; however, they are a niche aggregator who republished the above Union Tribune story. I’m not sure if Wikipedia editors ever gain access to paid news subscriptions, but if someone were not able to view the Tribune story on this, they could see the same content at this link. Though I will note there are some weird typos and other formatting oddities.

Can an editor review this request and make the necessary changes? Thank you! AlecCWSL (talk) 21:50, 17 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
