Found by National Underwater and Marine Agency?
editThe Clive Cussler article states that The Manassas was found by NUMA. Perhaps if someone can find a reliable reference this article can be expanded to include this information. OlEnglish (talk) 00:36, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Incorrect image
editThe image of Manassas that is used in the article is incorrect. Manassas had two stacks, not one. Hearn (Capture of New Orleans, 1862, p. 68.) emphasizes this point. I would put in a different image, but the only correct one I have seen is subject to copyright restrictions. Perhaps someone else can find (or create) a better picture. Tone
editIt is interesting to read the description of this ship vs. the description of the USS Mississippi and George Dewey's wiki entry. The engagement between the Manassas and the Mississippi seems to be somewhat different in tone and different points of view depending on which ship you are reading about. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 100.15.215.84 (talk) 14:04, 12 November 2018 (UTC)
Clipper Manassas
editI can find no evidence this vessel actually existed. The text says it was the revenue cutter "Afinot", but the footnote says it was the "Minot" (and a revenue cutter is not a clipper). Susposedly it was operational in North Carolina, but the cited reference makes no mention of it. I beleive this ship is ficticious, and this section (which would be only marginally relevant if the ship did exist) should be removed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ~2026-90776-9 (talk) 18:42, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
