Don't delete it your you will be banned from wiki for vandalizing.Reply

@SamfromAus123, the article should summarize what reliable sources say about the Book of Enoch, not be an excessive quoting of what the Book of Enoch says. Schazjmd (talk) 22:56, 6 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Gadreel/Gadriel

edit

In the "Names of the fallen angels" section, the name "Gadriel" links to Gadreel. But this just links back to the same section, leading it to loop into itself. It's also stated to be another name for Azazel, which is not cited and I can't find repeated anywhere else. In the versions of the Book of Enoch I can find (mainly, these two: 1 and 2) the only reference to Gadreel, or any variant of the name, only states that he was the one to have tempted Eve. I don't think it was said to have been another name for Azazel, as far as I'm aware.

Also, wouldn't it be best to add a link to the Fall of man, Original sin, or Serpents in the Bible pages for the paragraph that explains Gadreel? Since the Book of Enoch is directly claiming that Gadreel is the Serpent of Genesis. DerUbermonke (talk) 02:14, 27 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

BC vs BCE

edit

This is an article about a Jewish book. The Jewish community does not believe that the Messiah has come. To use "Before Christ" for dating in the article is inane and runs counter to standard practice in writing texts on history. RobertThePilgram (talk) 18:11, 8 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Doesn't matter: per WP:DATEVAR, the date style should not be changed without a prior consensus being established for the change on the talk page. Skyerise (talk) 13:05, 10 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'd support changing to BCE on the grounds offered by Robert. Furius (talk) 09:28, 11 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
I would also support BCE/CE for those reasons.—-Ermenrich (talk) 12:39, 11 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Mistranslation

edit

@Torah musa: you appear to be adding WP:OR to the page. Your source for the Ethiopian text being a mistranslation appears to be the Book of Enoch itself. Can you show any WP:RS that take this position, or show that it is the generally held position rather than that of an individual scholar?--Ermenrich (talk) 01:04, 25 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Sabbath in Enoch

edit

The word Sabbath was used only once in this article (incidentally to be sure) before I added another instance. So isn’t this already some proof that Sabbath is unimportant in 1 Enoch? For the Rabbis this would be a problem. What do you think. Y-barton (talk) 04:57, 30 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

No, counting the number of times sabbath is used is not enough to prove something. You need a WP:reliable source for any information added to the article, you can’t use your own reasoning to determine it. Otherwise it’s WP:original research and must be removed from the article.—-Ermenrich (talk) 12:00, 30 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
I didn't actually say that I proved something, but merely asked a question if this can be seen as some proof. Y-barton (talk) 00:48, 24 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
