NACA vs Townend cowl

edit

That MIGHT be an (early) NACA cowl in the second picture, but the first picture definitely appears to be a Townend ring, so the text shouldn't say that ALL P-29' used NACA cowls instead of Townend rings, because obviously some didn't..45Colt 20:09, 8 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Okay, not only that, but it makes frequent reference throughout the article to "drag rings" (actually, "anti-drag rings" as well, which I don't think is a proper term). First, that's an obscure term that most people probably won't recognize. Second, "drag ring" refers to a Townend ring in American usage. It suggests at the top of the article that "the Wasp engine was fitted with a NACA cowl instead of a Townend ring...", but then goes on to say several times how the P-29 "used a drag ring", which IS a Townend ring. So which is it? Anyway, whichever one it is, it should say "Townend ring" or "NACA cowl", because most people have no idea what a "drag ring" refers to..45Colt 20:42, 8 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
