Merger proposal: "Blue Train Bentley" into "Blue Train Races"

edit

WHEREAS the Blue Train Bentley is notable either for its performance in a Blue Train Race (the H. J. Mulliner saloon) or for being confused with the Blue Train Race car (the Gurney Nutting coupé),

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the topic Blue Train Bentley derives its notability from the topic Blue Train Races,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the content of both articles can be accommodated within the "Blue Train Races" article without loss or dilution, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the "Blue Train Bentley" article should be merged into the "Blue Train Races" article.

Sincerely, SamBlob (talk) 12:10, 23 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Withdraw proposal - Most of the Blue Train Bentley (BTB) article was already in Blue Train Races (BTR). I have copied the section from BTB that would expand on what is in BTR into BTR and added the "Copied" template to the talk pages. I will clean up the result a bit and then I will redirect BTB into BTR. Sincerely, SamBlob (talk) 17:13, 31 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Blue Train "race"

edit

According to Google Maps, a modern trip from the Cannes Carlton starting 17:45 (in July), via Lyon and Auxerre city centers to Boulogne docks, avoiding Autoroutes and toll roads , would be 1134km and take 18h to 20h40, average of 63 km/h or slower. Barnato, nearly a century ago, claimed 16h45 (minus finishing drinks), average of 67,7 km/h or 43,3 mph, while his 1929 Le Mans win was at 118.49 km/h (73.63 mph), and in 1930 slightly faster (122.11 km/h 75.88 mph as there was competition by Mercedes).

BTW: early March has more than 12 hours of night time, while traditional LM24h date in mid June has the shortest nights with less than 8 hours (21:00:35 to 04:58:21 modern UTC+1). Modern trains take under 10h (TGV inOui) up to 17h (night train), always via Paris, while modern Autoroutes still take 10 to 15h for some 1200km. 2003:C6:3723:9D31:C58D:2176:BF44:5CEE (talk) 15:00, 11 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
