Talk:Battle of Chrysopolis

Constantine and Christianity

edit

This article is seriously flawed in its too positive identification of Constantine with Christian interests. The literature used to support this view is (with one exception) seriously dated. Modern ecclesiastical historians focus on Constantine's political interests and noncommital religious opinions. Jajafe 17:32, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Article scope

edit

This article is about a battle. Does it not seem odd that with the exception of the date, it contains no actual information "about the battle"? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.42.115.242 (talk) 19:20, 18 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

323 or 324?

edit

Some say 323 and some say 324, so maybe both opinions should be mentioned. Art LaPella (talk) 16:06, 19 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I just write stuff, I have never bothered with geographic co-ordinates and have no idea how to alter them. Urselius (talk) 20:27, 24 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Source check for Constantine’s tactics sentence

edit

Hello @Urselius, Quick question about the new citation you added here. I had a look at Odahl 2010, p.180, but I still cannot find anything about Chrysopolis or Constantine’s tactics on that page. Could you point me to the specific sentence in Odahl that supports did not attempt any preliminary manoeuvring? the only quote I found p. 159 says : Constantine emerged from his tent and ordered his troops to make a direct frontal assault upon the enemy I also checked the Eusebius section cited, but I may be missing the relevant line there too. Thanks for helping me locate it. -Aeengath (talk) 15:19, 14 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

No problem, thanks for confirming, I’ll remove that phrase and keep only what the cited pages support. -Aeengath (talk) 07:59, 16 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
