Balen Shah → Balendra Shah – His formal name is Balendra Shah. As with Pushpa Kamal Dahal Wikipedia page, who is widely known as Prachanda is not named Prachanda on Wikipedia, this should consistently follow the suit all over Wikipedia pages for uniformity and authenticity. The result of the move request was: moved. Balendra Shah is not the common name, and a disambiguation isn't needed on the new title. (non-admin closure) veko. (user | talk | contribs) he/him 12:59, 18 September 2025 (UTC)
Balendra Shah (politician) → Balen Shah – This article was unilaterally moved without discussion in spite the decision above to keep the name Balen Shah. Charles Essie (talk) 01:05, 11 September 2025 (UTC)

- I was reading about Nepal protests in The New York Times and saw him cited as Balendra Shah,[1] which matches SaadJatt saying this is the name he goes by as mayor. So, support removal of unnecessary disambiguation and move to Balendra Shah. Wracking talk! 14:42, 11 September 2025 (UTC) Wracking talk! 14:42, 11 September 2025 (UTC)
- You can find articles dating back to 2022 that refer to him as Balen Shah. WP:COMMON should hold. Nepali media has always referred to him as Balen Shah. Foreign media will probably stop reporting on him after these events, so I don't think foreign media should take precedence. PenGear (talk) 06:57, 14 September 2025 (UTC)

- Articles dating back to 2022, 2023 and before these 2025 Nepalese protests also mention "Balendra Shah", for example here's a 2023 Al Jazeera article mentioning him as "Balendra Shah". 2023 Kathmandu Post mentioning him as "Balendra Shah" etc. and most importantly the Time magazine, which I mentioned below, mentioned him as "Balendra Shah" in 2023. SaadJatt (talk) 19:43, 14 September 2025 (UTC) (UTC)
- I don't know why foreign media should be given more weight. The page was called Balen Shah before the protests and I don't think it needed to be changed just because of increased foreign coverage. If there is persistent use of Balendra in the future I will change my mind, but Balen Shah has been used reliably and consistently in Nepali media both in Nepali and English languages. Also I mean to link WP:COMMONNAME PenGear (talk) 19:53, 14 September 2025 (UTC)

- Move to Balendra Shah without disambiguation title as there's no other article titled "Balendra Shah" on Wikipedia. I do understand the move occurred without a discussion, although it is logical. "Balen" is only his professional name which he used as a musician, the official name as mayor of Kathmandu that he uses is his full name Balendra Shah. SaadJatt (talk) 03:16, 11 September 2025 (UTC)
- I'd be okay with that. I chose "Balen" because of the above discussion and because it was the title used before the undiscussed move. Charles Essie (talk) 10:26, 11 September 2025 (UTC)
- Support WP:COMMONNAME Nepali media in both English and Nepali languages refer to him as Balen Shah. PenGear (talk) 06:52, 14 September 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not sure whether his stage name "Balen" is WP:COMMONNAME. Here's a list of mainstream media sources using his full name "Balendra Shah" instead of his stage name "Balen" or "Balen Shah".
- Western media: Time, BBC, Al Jazeera, Washington Post, Reuters, New York Times
- Indian media: Times of India, The Hindu, NDTV, Hindustan Times, Mint, The Indian Express
- All of these sources use "Balendra Shah" instead of "Balen" or "Balen Shah". It think it's quite clear "Balendra Shah" is WP:COMMONNNAME. SaadJatt (talk) 19:38, 14 September 2025 (UTC) (UTC)

While most people know Balen Shah as a rapper, engineer, and the Mayor of Kathmandu, very few people talk about his deeply disciplined and independent personality. Behind his public image is a person who prefers action over words and preparation over popularity. Before entering politics, he spent many years quietly building his knowledge in engineering, urban planning, and social issues, which shows his long-term vision rather than short-term fame.
Another unique part of his personality is his courage to go against the traditional system. At a young age, he challenged experienced politicians not with big political backing but with confidence, ideas, and self-belief. This shows his risk-taking nature and strong mental determination. Many people also don't notice his calm but strategic communication style—he often speaks less but makes statements that carry strong meaning.
He is also known among close circles as someone who values merit, discipline, and self-respect. His journey shows a mix of creativity (through music), technical thinking (through engineering), and leadership (through politics), which is a rare combination. This balance between an artist’s mind and an engineer’s logic is what makes his personality different from typical political leaders.
His story is not just about winning an election but about proving that a new generation with vision, education, and courage can change the direction of leadership. Aavash99 (talk) 04:22, 20 March 2026 (UTC)

Remove the line "During his tenure as mayor, Shah also promoted Greater Nepal irredentism, claiming parts of northern India that that were once part of the Kingdom of Nepal, following the Nepalese land captures by British India after the Sugauli Treaty." or change the word "promoted" in the line to "displayed" as he never promoted Greater Nepal directly. In response to the Maurya Empire mural in India's new Parliament building, which included the country of Nepal as part of India, he displayed the map of Greater Nepal in his office. There was no further intent or promotion of Greater Nepal.
https://myrepublica.nagariknetwork.com/news/map-of-greater-nepal-in-mayor-balen-s-office
"Map of Greater Nepal" section in the article covers the matter more correctly while the line mentioned above gives entirely different meaning. ~2026-19187-09 (talk) 12:49, 27 March 2026 (UTC)

Change the Name from Balen Shah to just Balen
editSo Balendra Shah, also known as Balen is mostly popular as just Balen. In official formats, its used as Balendra Shah and not Balen Shah. Normally, it is either Balen or Balendra Shah. So, I suggest to keep it just Balen TheStony (talk) 18:11, 27 March 2026 (UTC)

Change: Add new information in the "Political career" or "Premiership" section.
Proposed addition:
On 28 March 2026, former Prime Minister K. P. Sharma Oli was arrested by Nepal Police in connection with an investigation into deaths that occurred during the 2025 anti-corruption protests, shortly after the new government took office.[1]

- Could you please specify where exactly in the article this should be added? There is no "Political career" or "Premiership" section. Day Creature (talk) 07:23, 29 March 2026 (UTC)
