- ... that three films by Arun Bhattarai, who began his career in 2014 as a youth television director in Bhutan, have been screened at international film festivals?

- Not a review (for now), but a new hook may be needed here. Bhattarai's films being showed in film festivals abroad is an accomplishment, especially for a Bhutanese filmmaker, but I'm not sure if the hook as currently written meets DYKINT. That angle could be revisited if nothing else could be found, but for now I would suggest proposing alternative options. Maybe mentions of the awards? - Narutolovehinata5 when do you intend to do a full review? ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 00:50, 5 August 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if I will, my response was intended to be a comment, but I may give it a review once alternate hooks are proposed. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 06:14, 5 August 2025 (UTC)
Alright, full review needed to see if DYKINT is met, as NLH5 is not sure. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 09:18, 5 August 2025 (UTC)

Giving this a full review. The article was nominated for DYK one day after creation. It meets the length requirements and is free from close paraphrasing. A QPQ has been provided. His year of birth is verified in the Kathmandu film festival link, but there's a discrepancy: the source says he is from Thimpu, but the article says he is from Samtse; the Docnomads link does not mention either his birth place or birth year. I remain uncertain if the hook meets DYKINT, so once this issue has been addressed, I will ask for second opinions at WT:DYK. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 10:36, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the review Narutolovehinata5, I've corrected the identified issue. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 11:04, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
Thank you. Returning this to the DYK community for a second opinion on the hook's interest. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 00:51, 25 August 2025 (UTC)

- What about a new hook focusing on Bhattarai's short film about glaciologist and "Mountain Man" Phuntsho Tshering? In the culture of North America, the concept of a mountain man plays a significant role in our history. This kind of hook would have a global reach and understanding. - There are an infinite number of variations available. Obviously, it would have to be added to the article:
- ALT1: ... that an attempt to measure climate change in the Himalayas by the only glaciologist in Bhutan was made into a documentary film by Arun Bhattarai?

- "Only glaciologist" is a superlative claim and might catch the attention of the WP:DYKHOOKCITE police. The hook probably works without mentioning it anyway, so maybe it can be deleted? Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 00:09, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
- So, the thing about him being the only glaciolgist is super interesting. Apparently, the people there consider the mountain sacred and want it untouched, so by going to the mountain to perform scientific measurements, he's acting in direct opposition to the wishes of the townspeople, who because of superstitions, accuse him of causing the climate change that is melting the glaciers. How to put all of that into a hook and remain culturally respectful is a tough one, but there's some real golden nuggets there for someone who wants to create an interesting hook. Viriditas (talk) 00:59, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
- That all sounds very hooky for the glaciologist, or the film, or possibly even the mountain, but not for the filmmaker. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 09:17, 26 August 2025 (UTC)

- I can't do much better than Viriditas, and agree that the hook is a bit of a reach for this particular article subject. It reminds me a bit of a previous discussion about a highly successful violinist, where their article was composed entirely of things that are completely expected for a highly successful violinist -- here, we have a fairly standard CV of media jobs, films made, awards won and juries served on, and I'm not really seeing anything that passes the bar for WP:DYKINT. Personally, I would not take ALT0 on that basis, and without the "only glaciologist" bit, ALT1 reduces to "did you know that a documentary filmmaker made a documentary film about a predictable documentary topic?".
