I would just like to point out that with this page, the wording of the possible Semitic origins of Aphrodite and her worship is presented as a concrete fact, even though this is a current, ongoing debate that has been going on for centuries. Some state she may have been derived from an Indo-European goddess of Dawn, and there are numerous other potential origins of her worship. It appears as if someone from a biased background has gone ahead and changed this information to fit their narrative. It is a contested theory; don't present it as a solidified fact. The entire page makes it seem as if the Greeks copied Aphrodite as a goddess, which is historically inaccurate and odd to put on Wikipedia. Atlasstar09 (talk) 00:49, 12 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Atlasstar09: There's been an awful lot of scholarly discussion of Aphrodite's "origins" (however much utility that term has in this context), so I hesitate to make any confident pronouncements about the matter. But I think I more or less agree with your assessment that the "Origins" section could be more measured and nuanced. It seems a bit intent on making a point about her Near Eastern origins. Honestly, this article should probably undergo revision or at some stage head to WP:GAR: there's an overreliance on Cyrino, an imbalance between literary and archaeological evidence, and a lack of engagement with a fair bit of recent Aphrodite scholarship. –Michael Aurel (talk) 06:28, 16 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
