Dad died.

edit

I am the subject's eldest child. I edited the page to reflect that he passed yesterday. I had previously made several contributions to the page, correcting factual errors.

He's obviously no longer subject to the BLP classification, but I'm not sure how I would remove that.

The edits I made were strictly factual and objective, although some deepened comments that were already there, that were made in my presence. For example, Faye Dunaway didn't think that Steve McQueen was a very good kisser. I toned that down. Johntrustman (talk) 15:27, 5 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

I understand your desire to correct things. I have made the change to the BLP item. While this may not be the best time to ask, we do need citations for matters such as date of death, please. 🇵🇸🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 15:39, 5 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm just writing the emails to the newspapers, and I will update the citation as soon as they publish.
At this point, I think I'm the authoritative source. 😎 Johntrustman (talk) 15:51, 5 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think you are. Not the happiest portion to be in, I'm afraid. Thank you. 🇵🇸🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 17:18, 5 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
And thank you for removing the BLP classification. Johntrustman (talk) 15:51, 5 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Johntrustman:, firstly sorry for your loss. However, I've now restored the page as an obituary hasn't been forthcoming and we must abide by WP:BLP. Once you get one published, I'll be happy to restore the death information. Thanks --Jkaharper (talk) 15:54, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
We've submitted the obituary to The New York Times and the Boston Globe, but not the paid death notice, as Dad was fairly remarkable. I'll let you know if and when they publish. I'll probably send something to the Miami Herald later today as well. I'm not a big fan of the print media, so spending $1,000 to preserve their existence seems reasonably stupid to me. I assume the mortuary will make the death public as well. It's not a process I'm overly familiar with.
He's also been submitted to the Academy for inclusion in the Oscar In Memoriam roll, and I'll probably let Harvard and Exeter know at some point as well. The Academy is probably interested, as they are re-making Thomas Crown Affair again, this time by and with Michael B. Jordan.
It's ironic that Wikipedia is acting in a way which prolongs the life of the legacy media. You'd think you guys would be the last to sign up for that. Johntrustman (talk) 16:09, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi John, it's absolutely nothing to do with the legacy media. You can use Legacy.com, Neptune Society, Tribute Archive or Dignity Memorial if you wish – they're all fine to use as sources. We don't need it to come from the press. Thanks --Jkaharper (talk) 12:48, 14 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
The New York Times published the obit on Saturday.
Do you want me to re-edit, or can you just put those things back in? Johntrustman (talk) 14:09, 9 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
