The Aitape Skull

• ... that the Aitape Skull (pictured) may be the remains of the oldest known tsunami victim? Source: "Therefore, on balance, we would argue that the individual in question was either directly killed in the mid-Holocene tsunami, or redeposited from a burial dating to slightly earlier than the Paniri event."

Aitape

Curiously the article fails to mention anywhere why it is named after (presumably) Aitape. Looking at the map, it's probably just the settlement closest to the skull's finding place (even though that's not actually in Aitape)? ~2026-44078-0 (talk) 03:23, 13 March 2026 (UTC)
