editThank you for your comment. I am a new contributor and am still learning a lot. Mostly I contribute in Afrikaans and have not experienced the same type of problem there. I realise that my problem is that I did not give a valid reason for the removal. I hope it is in order that I give my reasons here. I understood that I had to change the reflective part of the article and I have done it.
- (1) I have changed it so that it is more statements than my arguments.
- (2) I have also linked the article to other Wikipedia articles with similar content.
- (3) I have even linked another article "Folklore" to my article.
Now I would like to know what else can be done. I am learning a lot, especially when I get feedback like yours. Thank you for that. Looking forward to hear some constructive feedback again. Estelleke13 (talk) 06:22, 7 August 2016 (UTC)Estelleke13
Article digresses from the subject of Afrikaans folklore
editGoing through this article, I can't help but notice that the focus is frequently just as much on the teaching of folklore as on the folklore itself. In an article called "Afrikaans folklore", I suspect most readers would expect to find a survey of Afrikaans folklore (see, for comparison, French folklore). Imagine their surprise when the article opens like this: "Learners of Afrikaans as an additional language could be enabled to respond to aesthetical, emotional, cultural and social values. Through the use of Afrikaans folklore teachers can focus on developing the learners' ability to behave with cultural and aesthetic sensitivity in different social contexts." The focus seems to be far more on a specific style of teaching (and in that context, making use of Afrikaans folklore), than it does on Afrikaans folklore itself, which is the title of the article. Now, while I think Afrikaans folklore probably warrants an article, this isn't that article, at least not yet. A great deal of trimming and rewriting may be necessary. Potential Rewrite: Pedia-ising the Tone?
editGood day,
I'm still very new in terms of contributing to the Wiki, but came across this page whilst doing research for a writing project and thought that perhaps I could assist in rewriting it for tone.
Would it be permissible for a more-or-less unproven editor (having only contributed minor spelling/grammar fixes) to do such an extensive rewrite? And if so, how can I best ensure that I follow the guidelines? I do not wish to step on anybody's toes. Vic Arnaud (talk) 05:48, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
