This article really needs a few more links and more precise terminology.

What is a "lung infection"? Does that refer to something as simple as a common cold, or does it refer to something more serious? And I can guess what a "vasoocclusive crisis" is, but it would be helpful to have a link to something that would give me more information - it is not helpful to define something in terms as complex as the original term.

Differential Diagnoses/etiology/complications

edit

I believe this section does not highlight the various differential diagnoses that exist when working up a patient with possible acute chest syndrome. Acute chest syndrome can imitate/mimic a variety of cardiothoracic and cardiopulmonary disorders, so I believe it is important that this section be included. I know there is a brief section that discusses how ACS could be similar to pneumonia, but there are also many other diagnoses that ACS can be mistaken for. I am planning to add more informatio to this section.

Additionally, while the overview at the start of the article is clear and easy to understand, the headings and subheadings fail to include the etiology, pathophysiology, complications, or any imaging or charts that might enhance its' readability. While the article does have reliable sources cited throughout and takes a neutral tone, I believe the article is under-developed as seen by gaps in sourcing and lack of recent sources. Therefore, I will aim to add more information regarding the above topics. BurntOrangeMD (talk) 20:00, 31 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
